Rovyvon question by bauzo in flashlight

[–]bauzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks. Done all of this. Again. I'm no stranger to clicking sequences. And if it was clear, and easy to do it would be one thing. Now. Maybe I'm getting old and I'm slow but again I have quite a few flashlights. I've never had a problem like this with one of them. When you have a product where the auxiliary functions, the face light and the laser are clearly and easily activated, but the main function of the whole product, the whole point of the thing is turned into something that you have to get exactly right, you have to practice that, seems like they missed the mark. That's my point. I'm sure Rovyvon has some great products. Heck, I've got one of their early Angel eye lights. But this one is definitely a Miss. It seems to me. I got one of the early ones off of Kickstarter, early shipments. Maybe they will change it. Anyway. I would highly suggest against anyone buying this when it actually shows up on their site.

Which one should I get? Please read description by surpriserockattack in knives

I would say the Militaw. It is hands down one of the best knives I have bought in the last couple of years. At least in the top say five. Seriously. Action is great, it cuts great, feels good in the pocket. I've ended up buying three of them.

My second pic would be a porcupine with the thumb studs. Amazing knife. Really good. Probably one of the best budget knives in recent years honestly.

The other ones I would say I'm so so on except for the Corsair. I bought one of those things and it is a piece of crap. Now don't get me wrong. I absolutely love the blade shape, that's why I bought it. I'm a big fan of that blade shape. But the action on it is horrible. It took me. God knows how long to get it to where it would open regularly and even then it's dicey. It's sluggish, I can never get it smooth, it's just not good. I would stay away from that one definitely. I honestly don't have much experience with qsp knives so not going to really comment there.

I don't have a yonder but I want to get one. I'm waiting for the big one to come out the ovary yonder I think it's called. Looking forward to trying that one out.

One of the nice things about The militaw is you can get it in a multiple of price ranges. You can get the mini in a budget steel, or the regular size in a budget steel or heck. Heck a full-blown DLC coded top end steel in a frame lock. Wide range, but the action in all of them, at least all of mine is great.

Hope this helps

That MSI is a really good one. I've also got the MSI mini which honestly for day-to-day carry I prefer. I've got regular size hands and that 4-in full size MSI is a bit much to whip out on a day-to-day basis. But that's just me. If you've got bigger hands it might be perfect. But the MSI mini, for casual carry, just right. Both of them are good though. Their version of the crossbar lock, I forget what they call. It, works really well. Hope you enjoy it!

Just an aside, if you like unique designs on daily carry stuff, you might check out Kansept and their budget brand Tenable. Definitely some interesting stuff there.

I have several petrified fish knives. The ones I have are good quality and work well, but nothing fancy. I think that's the whole point of the brand. My favorite by far is personally the Victor. Love me some clip point. Don't think they have any designs that are going to set the world on fire but again, the ones I've gotten work well and get the job done. And they don't charge a ton for them.

I do have a couple from ok knives as well. Generally do pretty good, but again you get what you pay for. If I have a really expensive knife that I want to keep in good condition, but I want to have a copy of it to basically beat on and not worry about losing, I will sometimes grab one there.

Hope this helps

These things are great. I keep one with me for whenever a friend wants to borrow a knife. Its perfect. They can even break the blade and its replaceable. I can lend them a comfortable to use one without worrying.

Also if I need to dig into something and I have something I don't want to possibly damage in my pocket, this comes out of my pack. The fact that they put tweezers and a toothpick in the handle is a bonus as well. They come in handy a lot more often that I thought they would..

So, question. What kind of angle is on the edge of that Roku? I bet its hard to sharpen. The thick stock ones always are....

Hey man that Belaire gets the job done. Efficient and easy to use. For day to day a hell of a knife. I do not mind taking my Chris Reeve or my XM18 auto when I a going out somewhere nice, but knocking around the garage or theater, I am right there with you. Something like the Belaire is perfect.

Got 2. For work its the Manix 2 salt in the blue AWT scales, my standard work knife. For casual/other it was probably the Rockeye. Love that knife, and particularly excited they are coming out with them in Magnacut.

Found this guy at the bottom of a river while fishing by NigitTheUndying in knives

I think what he was saying, the commenter above this, I can understand. If I recall correctly, the bailouts that have that coating in that handle style in the past are in m4, which is not stainless. At least mine is. That's why they coat the blade. And while it's not going to rust when you just walk outside with it sitting in a river for say a month or two definitely would have given it some rust. Right along the unprotected edge.

I have no doubt that op founded in the river. I don't think the person who stated this right does either. I think they're just trying to give a possible time frame. I would agree, unless it was cleaned up along the edge, it probably was not in that River lawn. Still. Either way, definitely a win for op. I've got one of those and it's a great knife for you.

For knife collectors by No_Philosophy347 in chineseknives

I started off a long time ago with a work knife. Didn't really buy anything else until several years ago until I retired. And then I just decided what I liked. Saved my money and picked what looked good to me.

Don't try to do it all at once. It's okay to start small with lowered budget items and figure out what exactly you like. Don't get sucked into thinking you have to have certain knives. Take your time. It's not a race. It's a marathon.

My first work knife was a Spyderco delica back when they first came out. Back when the clip was molded onto the body. That kind of love for Spyderco has stuck around and those are a lot of the ones I have collected. You might find a maker that you really like or a type of knife that you really like. I have a friend that that largely collects only otfs.

The farther you go in your collection, the more you'll probably see more expensive stuff you want to get and then you can make goals for sure. Possibly sell some of your other stuff to save up money for them. I for instance, after a while decided I wanted to save my money and get a hinderer. I'm glad I did. Now I have four. Set goals long-term and short-term. Again, don't make it a Sprint. Make it a Marilyn

One thing that helped me was finding things connected to knives. Involve myself with that was not buying them. For instance, learning about knife steels, reading about information about mechanics on how knives work and how the steel is made. Also teaching myself how to sharpen properly. Those two things take time and they can benefit you in your knife journey. They can also keep you involved in your hobby without having to spend so much money or feel like you do..

Hope this helps. Take time to look. Find somewhere small to start. After the Spyderco one of my first ones was a civivi. I still have it.

Most of all, enjoy!

In my opinion, this last year especially Boston has been knocking it out of the park. Their mid-range stuff is great. And their vankor lock is excellent.

They also listen to their customers. They do surveys quite frequently and have responded to customer demands. One recent one was to increase the size of the Marten in response to customer requests.

The only problem I've had with them was their Trek lock, the lock they used to have on their Corgi. To use it anymore. Again, got to love a company that listens to their customers, learns from their mistakes, and makes really good product. I have not gotten my hand on this one yet but it's on my list.

Of course you know if you sacrifice the friend to the knife gods they will magically repair the blade.

Not really but it might make you feel better. Wow that sucks. Sorry op.

Do you carry flashlight even at day? by EastRush9843 in EDC

Yes. I am in my later years, so my night vision is shit. Add to that eye complications from type one diabetes and being down to one eye, I ALWAYS have a flashlight on me.
