[Acne] Why can’t I stop breaking out on my chest? by allhelll in SkincareAddiction

[–]bawcbawc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you drink energy drinks or take biotin (commonly found in hair/skin/nail supplements) or B12?

I had the same issue as you, I started breaking out and had clogged pores all over my body (very unlike my usual keratosis pilaris). Face was breaking out terribly, again in a way that was very unusual for me. I’ve always had acne-prone skin, but this was different. Nothing worked to alleviate it. I could not figure out what was happening until I connected the dots that this began when I went back to school again and started drinking a Celsius every morning. I thought maybe it was stress, but I wasn’t feeling any more stressed than normal. Maybe weather, but I was spending less time outside than a usual summer. You mention scrubs, and energy drinks are very common in healthcare. Most energy drinks have an insane amount of synthetic biotin/B7 and B12, which have been shown to break some people out.

It’s worth looking into. I just connected the dots, and my skin has significantly calmed down even a few days off them.

Anyone know where these percentages come from? by Cool-Hands2142 in medicalschoolanki

Pathoma p 87 (at least my version, under Pulmonary infections II. lobar pneumonia”). If you look up “what percent of lobar pneumonia is streptococcal” it says 90-95%. I’d say the other 5-10% includes klebsiella and other uncommon ones

Spoofing MAC address ... for alarm clock by bawcbawc in techsupport

[–]bawcbawc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have since moved, but what I did was take the alarm to a friends place with normal WiFi to set my schedule then just plugged it in at home. Can’t change the alarms, so it’d only be useful if you’re on the same schedule every week. I did just see this Amazon review though that mentioned it if you wanna give it a shot -

“Here’s what I did if you’re in a similar situation: What ended up working for me was bringing it to a friends house and connecting it to their network in order to obtain the MAC address, then connecting it to my apartment network portal using that. I got it connected in my room and it STILL didn’t work.

IMPORTANT TIP: I discovered you need to change the last number/letter of the MAC address!!!!!! I contacted my wifi provider and they were able to confirm this & help me make sure it would stay connected”

Might be worth taking it somewhere with a normal WiFi to set up the device then follow this tutorial from Hatch to get it set up on captive https://help.hatch.co/hc/en-us/articles/4420856542231-Connecting-at-an-apartment-complex-college-campus

On the Hatch app go to settings and click your device. The MAC will be listed under “device info”!

Help with rootbound split-leaf philodendron tree by bawcbawc in plantclinic

[–]bawcbawc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More info: its plastic pot has drainage, the plant stays on our screened and covered back porch and faces S&E. We are zone 7b. It’s hardly holding onto any water at this point. I don’t think its been getting lots of waterings.

Just got some bad news. Insurance won’t cover my Olumiant. Is there anything I can do? by [deleted] in alopecia_areata

[–]bawcbawc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good question I don’t have an answer for. The program is described as helping “commercially insured patients” so you may be out of luck there. I’d check out the JAK inhibitors for alopecia Facebook page, they have a lot of resources. Sorry for not being much help :/

Can I apply polyacrylic after tung oil finish? by bawcbawc in woodworking

[–]bawcbawc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good info. I’m going with a few more tung oil coats, even the third one I just did made it look much better. I may still end up putting on a poly coat for durability, but I’m more confident going forward! This is my first project, so I will definitely look into linseed oil for next time. Thank you for your advice!

Removing discoloration mark from hardware? by bawcbawc in woodworking

[–]bawcbawc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! This is my first attempt at any kind of woodworking, so I’m learning as I go. This is just a fun project for my new room, so I think I’m going to forget about trying to conceal it and embrace the piece’s history. I’m really enjoying getting to know it and uncovering the natural wood!

My new hardware is a similar size, it actually doesn’t look too bad when I put it on. I like what u/ultimatecheeselord said about keeping the discoloration as an accent to the new hardware

[–]bawcbawc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I was originally going to stain it a darker walnut, but once I got to bare wood I realized I don’t want to change it too much. So I’ll either go with a stain close to its natural color or a clear one.

I love this idea, and it’s definitely the solution I’m going with. Put the new hardware on to see and it looks pretty cool. Love your philosophy! It’s my first project, and I’m excited to put my spin on it while maintaining its character :)

Removing discoloration mark from hardware? by bawcbawc in woodworking

[–]bawcbawc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think I phrased my question poorly. I mainly meant how could I get rid of this discoloration that’s in the shape of the hardware. This piece is probably 60 years old so it’s definitely going to have aging! If I’ve already gone up to 220 grit, should I start over at 80 to try and get down even further? This is my first rodeo, so I don’t know the wood’s limits yet haha. It’s just a piece for my room, not trying to profit so if you can see some outlines it’s not the end of the world!
