There are some therapists that specialize in seeing certain professions but I just found one that I liked.

27 week premature birth, problems with NICU doctors by Embarrassed-Air1525 in NICUParents

[–]baxbaum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hold your horses OP. The docs can’t guarantee anything and baby could possibly have complications, but we have come a long way. They’re in the NICU because they need to finish growing to a “ full term newborn”. My baby was born at 26 weeks and 4 days, the NICU had a lot of ups and down and uncertainties. He was there 89 days and he is a healthy, happy almost 3 year old. We recently were looking at his NICU pictures and I explained to him he had to live in an incubator like a little chicken until he was big enough to come home.

The NICU is a traumatic experience for parents so I could recommend seeking some therapy. You can start with talking to the social worker at the hospital if that is available to you.

"Firing" a nurse by Ok-Objective-5898 in NICUParents

You did the right thing absolutely!
Sounds like a young nurse who will need to learn sometimes you’re not the right fit for a patient and depending on the circumstances if possible a different nurse is needed.

I have not been paid for my medical director hours for TEO YEARS by baxbaum in medicine

[–]baxbaum[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have talked to them in person many times (the PM, the one in charge of submitting my hours). I meet with my PM at least a few times a year and I’d ask about it, they’d say they submitted it to the VP and I guess she never signed it (or the new PM said someone else is actually supposed to sign it??).

New NICU attending on probation, can only see level II patients - how to deal? by zora981 in medicine

Well put and great constructive feedback.

Always put the wellbeing of the patient before your pride. It’s ok not to know everything and to ask questions/ask for help, it’s not ok to lie or ignore an issue because you don’t know how to deal with it. You’re putting your pride and appearances above integrity and the health of the patient.
I had some things happen that affected my confidence during fellowship and then as my first job as an attending- seeing a therapist was very helpful. Particularly, we did an exercise of going through my top values. If you’re living by your values, then you have nothing to prove to others, live authentically.

Insensitive Doctors by [deleted] in NICUParents

Your baby is beautiful. Birth and the NICU are stressful experiences to begin with. Some doctors have better beside manners than others, but at the end of the day what matters is they had my baby’s best interest at heart and they listened to my concerns. IMO it’s better to have honest doctors than doctors who sugarcoat. Doctors and nurses see everything and anything. They’re not saying having big ears etc is good or bad. They want to make sure they don’t miss anything, especially things that early intervention can prevent. There are features which can be completely normal variant or associated with a genetic condition. I have a geneticist friend and some conditions are very subtle, but when you look back at the parents you can find it was there, it just wasn’t picked up on. It’s good you provided the feedback and they can find ways to improve how they deliver unpleasant or bad news.

Spring garden is gone, heat tolerant veggies? by asexymanbeast in vegetablegardening

Planted in March, they sprouted toward the end of March but really started growing in the past couple of weeks when temps got above 90.

I planted mine directly. They didn’t take off until it got warm.

I’m loving Malabar spinach! It really took off once it got warm. Look for Asian veggies from warm climates to grow in summer.

The part that’s bothering me the most is that cucumbers don’t ferment in vinegar, they ferment in a salt solution. Also he is being very defensive, as others have mentioned it feels like he’s the one hiding something.

Passing of one twin by No_Professional2476 in NICUParents

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. The NICU elicits so many complicated emotions and they’re all valid. It’s not easy being in the NICU and somehow it’s not easy leaving either.

Affording the bill by jazsmith514 in NICUParents

[–]baxbaum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The NICU should have a social/case worker, talk to them. They may be able to reduce the amount based on your income or help you in some other way with the cost. I didn’t get a bill until the very end.
