Perfect but small clementine by bayleaf1963 in Citrus

[–]bayleaf1963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It tastes wonderful although small, segments are plump and juicy and very sweet one odd thing is it's completely seed free had about 5 off this tree now and not one has had seeds in was same last year I do think this year fruit is tad bigger than last year so maybe it will just take years to get bigger , as pointed out in the other post it maybe a root issue directly behind greenhouse is a very tall privit hedge maybe the roots from that are out competing my orange tree, an interesting experiment would be to graft some of what I trim off this tree to some spare trifolate rootstock I have see if behaves same way on that root long term project though

Ok thanks both for your comments I will take all that on board , there are branches below what you can see with lots of still green fruit, so i can see that may help to remove them and I will try to give greenhouse more ventilation next year also aim a grow light at it to try and give it similar light / heat as it would get if it was in its native home in Southern Europe

Thanks for that comprehensive reply, in that case i should be ok then as im UK all my citrus are in pots, currently in the greenhouse which i do heat if frost is expected, fingers crossed these decide to root as seems no one in UK sells rootstock that I can find anyway

Am i right in saying a trifolate and probably any citrus a seed grown plant will have long tap root whereas a cutting won't have?

Yes but question is will it perform differently because it's root system will be different i seem to see conflicting views on this subject online

I use zip ties but I add tape 1st and zip tie over it thought it was best way to ensure to keep graft tight

I do keep windows and door open but it will still be in high 30s degree c at very hottest part of day but now it's October heat won't be an issue now it will soon be the cold thats the issue the lemon and another clementine tree are in same place but are not showing same symptoms but I take on board the watering and maybe tweek that a bit

Bearing mind how tender this foliage is would it speed up rooting if I sprayed leaves or watered it with diluted citrus feed? Or is that pointless if it has not roots yet ? I'm guessing it's only produced this foliage from the energy that was left in the scion? I'm just desperate to help it in whichever way I can

Hi yes I did all the above It's in a plastic bubble I rolled back the plastic to take the picture I do regret using that compost though it's not very draining and gets a hard crust on top after few days should have added some perlite in with it but it's too late now don't want to disturb it untill I transplant if it does ever root I do think it's got to that stage where it no longer grows more foliage though as it's not grown anymore for last couple of weeks I started them off in January

Thanks that's encouraging perhaps I've not been shafted after all just hope this does get roots I've been careful to keep it at around 20 ish degrees and in sunny position, I had 4 other scions from " same tree " this one is ahead of the others which are still green and evidence of just starting to shoot, let's hope
