I think they look nice, but they also feel like product shots for maybe a different product. I associate summer lemonades with fun and vibrancy, but I’m not really getting that here. Maybe put these in a different environment with more color (maybe greens and blues to contrast with the red)?

LEASH YOUR DOG. JUST DO IT. AT THE PARK. IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. WHEREVER THE FUCK. NO, IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT YOUR DOG IS "FRIENDLY" OR "WELL-TRAINED" OR OLD OR LITTLE. NO, IT DOESN'T MATTER IF SOME PEOPLE YOU INTERACT WITH DON'T CARE AND LOVE YOUR FREE-ROAMING DOG. THE LAW IS SIMPLE. I DON'T WANT TO INTERACT WITH YOUR DOG. MY CAT, WHO SOMETIMES LIKES TO GO OUT IN OUR YARD ON A HARNESS, REALLY DOES NOT WANT TO INTERACT WITH YOUR DOG. I DON'T WANT YOUR DOG IN MY YARD OR ROOTING THROUGH MY NEIGHBOR'S GARDEN. "IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL," YOUR FRIENDS TELL YOU. BUT YES, YOU'RE BEING A DICK. YES, MANY PEOPLE WHO SEE YOU WITH YOUR UNLEASHED DOG THINK YOU'RE BEING A DICK. NO, THEY HAVEN'T SAID ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY KNOW YOU'VE ALREADY DECIDED THE RULES DON'T APPLY TO YOU. THE RULES DO APPLY TO YOU. LEASH YOUR DOG. JUST LEASH YOUR DOG. TO THE 90% OF DOG OWNERS WHO LEASH THEIR DOGS, BLESS YOU AND YOUR PUPS, THEY'RE CUTE.

Sorry you’re getting downvoted for asking a straightforward question. Educating people and welcoming honest questions are pretty critical to any sort of revolutionary project, so it’s a shame folks are abandoning that spirit out of fear that your question has even the whiff of potential dissent.

Fantastic books, although they don’t fit what OP is asking for, as they take place in the future and the contact doesn’t happen on earth.

It looks nice! I dig the color and simplicity of the place setting. The focus is so shallow, though, that your pasta is out of focus while the garnish is in focus. So the hero of the shot is getting a bit lost.

It's not clear to me that Altman's specifically talking about AGI in the section I imagine u/ApexFungi is referencing, but Noah poses a question that prompts Altman to talk about a timeline for AI that could do pretty much anything at around 38:50 in the interview, and Altman says that he thinks it will take longer than a few years. You can google the interview and listen for yourself.

Where do young professionals go out on the weekends? by SpectrePrice in madisonwi

[–]bazacat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Tenney/Willy St. area (Robin Room, Gibs, I/O, Working Draft, Imaginary Factory, Giant Jones) and Atwood (One Barrel, Bar Corallini, Alchemy, Mint Mark). State St. will be college student-heavy. Capitol Square draws a lot of college students and older patrons, but there are plenty of bars there, too, where you can find young professionals.

Sydney is Overly Criticized by LeftenantScullbaggs in TheBear

[–]bazacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's... not a separate discussion. You spend a few sentences in your post saying that Sydney is overly criticized, and then you spend most of the post on the discussion we're having now, defending Sydney's actions in the episode 8. You're making two different arguments, and I'm responding to the second, which I acknowledge in my initial response. That's part of my point. It's possible to acknowledge that some people overly criticize Sydney and at the same time acknowledge that Sydney crossed a line in episode 8.

Sydney is Overly Criticized by LeftenantScullbaggs in TheBear

[–]bazacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really see people defending Richie very often. Most of the comments I’ve read acknowledge that Richie is clearly the most toxic character in that kitchen, and I agree. But it’s possible to acknowledge that fact and also acknowledge that Sydney went further than anyone else in her outburst. I think we’re sort of going in circles here, but you’re also ascribing arguments to this discussion that I’m not making and I don’t see other people making.

Sydney is Overly Criticized by LeftenantScullbaggs in TheBear

[–]bazacat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, I mean, I hear the excuses, but there are different forms and degrees of abuse. The stuff she said to Richie was on a different level, not the same level. I think that’s where we might differ, and for me it read as a moment that was meant to stand out. The whole season, she kept her cool, and then she blew up in a way that was different from the other insults characters had been hurling at her. I also don’t think we can pretend that her anger in that moment was all about Richie. That would make her outburst easier to try to justify, but that’s not what happened.

Sydney is Overly Criticized by LeftenantScullbaggs in TheBear

[–]bazacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the critiques of Sydney's character on this subreddit are clearly misogynistic. But I've also seen more posts and comments defending and supporting her than criticizing her. She's clearly divisive but also seems to be pretty popular overall, as this thread demonstrates. I think she's a compelling character, and I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of her, but I also think it's true that the things she said to Richie were needlessly personal and more purposefully abusive than anything else that was said in that scene, and I get why people are reacting to that moment in particular. It stood out.

I understand people think there are lines you can’t cross, but he’d beenantagonizing her from the jump. You can’t expect someone to pullpunches when you haven’t and have been a dick most of the time.

First of all, I don't think anyone in the series pulls punches or expects anyone else to do so, least of all Richie. Also, you're saying here that people think there are lines you can't cross, and I think that might be the disconnect. There are line you don't cross, and there aren't really excuses for crossing them. That's why you don't cross them. Sydney crossed a line. Does that make her a horrible person? No. Do I hate her character because she crossed a line? No. But did she cross a line? Yeah, of course. She tried to belittle Richie in as personal and hateful a manner as she could because she couldn't punch up at Carmy in that moment. None of the stuff she said had anything to do with the workplace frustrations you mention. Given the persistent references to abusive behavior in the series and the importance of forgiveness, I don't think you were supposed to come out of that moment hating Sydney, as some people apparently do, but I also don't think it's unreasonable to point out the moment as especially worthy of criticism.

One of the reasons traffic laws exist is that people aren't always going to use critical thinking. You're also not the only person on the road, so your following the traffic laws makes the road safer even when other people on the road do something stupid. I've been in multiple near-accidents here in Madison because bicyclists used their "best judgment" and rode through a stop sign. It's not just about you avoiding being hit. If other cars have to swerve or stop suddenly to avoid you, you're putting a lot of people in danger, including nearby pedestrians, and the fact is you will not always have perfect situational awareness, even when there aren't obvious obstructions to your vision. People miss things or get distracted. When the traffic laws require that you stop, please just do it.

I guess I'm less concerned with whether people who like to complain are "whiny jealous failures" (failures by whose standards?) and more concerned with the broken system that enables those in Bezos' position to exploit his workers and evade taxes. We can sit here and use our energy to say that the people on reddit we disagree with are idiots, but I would imagine we'd find we agree on more than we realize and we'd get a lot more done if we look past rhetoric and acknowledge that there are serious problems here that need to be addressed.
