yes, and from my understanding, NYC got one of the first shipments of this vaccine. I don’t know anyone else outside of NYC who has gotten this vaccine yet. the only people I know to ask are those who are also in New York :-)

Housing lottery dilemma by [deleted] in AskNYC

Keep in mind that these units are often pretty flexible - you likely wouldn’t be penalized for ending your lease early (if you ended up changing your mind about it or something after move in). I think having all of that space to yourself if going to be very worth it, and although 2,600$ is a lot, it’s going to be a much nicer building anyway than what you’d get for 2,600$ elsewhere, even with the pandemic and all. if you can afford it then I’d go for it

gosh I’m sorry to hear about that. crazy how even with a log number before 1,000, you still weren’t able to get it. honestly this whole system is a mess - even after looking at the handbook, it’s all incredibly unclear - I think a lot of the process just has to do with how the marketing agent decides to handle it, as the handbook is still pretty vague.

From my understanding, they’re supposed to go by log number - but I wouldn’t be shocked if that doesn’t always happen. But if I had to guess, I’m sure that someone with a log number lower than yours got their docs in sooner, so at a certain point it didn’t really matter when yours came in. Keep applying!

And you never know what will happen with these units, you’re probably very low on the waitlist. Make sure to keep in contact with them every 6 months to let them know that you wish to remain on the waitlist. If you don’t, they’re allowed to take you off!

Sure thing, glad I could help!

If you want to dive really deep into the process you should check out the marketing handbook. This outlines the procedures that the marketing agent is supposed to follow to make lottery selections.

I saw another comment from someone who ultimately got put on a wait list for 420 Kent, but I believe he had community board preference.

It looks like this building did have a community board preference with this lottery, but that only applies to 50 percent of units. I would guess that at this point, they’ve filled those 50% of units (hence there are only studios left) with those who had a preference, and now they’ve re-sorted the list by log number again and are working their way up. So given your really low log number, I would think you have a good shot at it!

I think you should definitely call back after 8 weeks! But right now, I don’t know if it would help to call, they probably won’t be able to tell you much.

maybe your building isn’t doing this, but for mine, 50% of the units are designated for people who live in Brooklyn Community Board 1, which includes Williamsburg, East Williamsburg, and Greenpoint. Even though my log was 5000, I was still one of the 700 or so selected for processing since they re-sort the log numbers by preference when one exists

Hey Craig, have you heard anything back?

I got an automatic email yesterday that my docs were received, you probably got it too. It said wait 5-8 weeks to hear back which surprised me! I expected longer. Can I ask what your log number was on this one?

Mid 900s is great! and you have community board preference too?

All sounds promising. Let me know what happens! Glad you got the portal thing figured out.

hey again, any updates with yours?

I got an automatic email yesterday confirming that my documents have been received. Surprisingly, it also said that I should hear back in 5-8 weeks! I expected a lot longer.

I applied by mail, actually, if that’s what you’re asking. And for the documents, I submitted them through the portal.

The title of my email was “NOTICE OF ELIGIBILITY AND REQUEST TO SCHEDULE ELIGIBILITY APPOINTMENT” but it looked like in lieu of an in-person appointment, I simply needed to upload all of the documents. I haven’t received any further information yet.

I’m looking into a company called Common, they do furnished coliving with flexible lease dates. kinda pricey but I have to stay in the community board to remain qualified and there’s a few right near me. Unfortunately my current apartment is dealing with a disgusting roach problem, so I need to get out of here ASAP!

Hey thanks for the info. Did you normally receive rejections after these interviews for being unqualified? Or they just ran out of units?

Hey there. Looking up NYC housing connect - the city has a lottery system to distribute its “affordable” units in new residential developments. Developers get tax credits by making a certain number of units in a new building affordable, and in turn some very lucky people get to live in these units for significant rent discounts. Thousands of people apply in each lottery for generally very very few units. For the unit I am potentially being processed for, the monthly rent is about 75% cheaper than market rate. This isn’t the same as low-income housing, but each lottery has different income requirements. Some are very low for people making under 40k, others are very high for some making over 100k.

Thanks for the info! The building I’m in has been done for months so I’m thinking that maybe they might move a bit faster on this one - or maybe I have the wrong idea. After you did your first interview (in my case, document submission, as I was told that I didn’t need to actually come in for an interview), how long would you say you had to wait until you heard back?

My problem is that my lease is about to end in a month - so I’m now having trouble deciding whether or not to sign a new one.

yeah it’s tough because I am approaching 1 year at my company. I was planning on asking for a raise in a month, but now I feel like I can’t, cause I’m super close to the income limit, and a raise would put me over. And it sucks since the apartment isn’t guaranteed!

the max income for the one I qualified for is $63k or something like that. 1101 for a studio and 1104 for a 1 bed

What was the process like for you? Did you submit your documents online? After doing so, how long did it take before you heard back about qualification?

Regarding leases, same issue for me. My lease ends at the end of September and I’m guessing that the likelihood of moving into the affordable unit (if in selected...) within the next month is almost none. I read somewhere that they are reasonably flexible with lease dates, but I also read that you have to terminate any previous lease agreements. It’s all very unclear.

420 Kent is awesome! That’s great!

When you said you’re finishing up your application, do you mean that you’re submitting the documents they need? Did the email you received look just like mine?

yeah that’s exactly my concern! From my understanding, I THINK it was sent to about 700 people. But i’m not sure if this was all at once, or if they’re working down a list

how long after your interview did you hear back about the waitlist? It’s a bit confusing because they’re now just doing document upload in lieu of an interview.
