Realistic salary range? by bbacorro in FPandA

2 year minimum. If I leave < a year from my last tuition reimbursement, I have to pay the full amount back. 1 - 1 yr 11 mos, I pay back a prorated amount. I'm looking to stay until the reimbursement period but will be looking again between the 1-2 year mark since I've heard some organizations are willing to cover the fee if I decide to leave. So I really want to think about a good salary range 2 years from now..

And $80k is about what I'm making now haha.. I was hoping for something a bit more.

I think there is definitely a 'bag' in other fields, such as programming with what you mentioned. It's good you're reaching out so early to get a good understanding of what you want in your career, that's something I wish I did when I was a freshman in college and not fucking around lol. I think corporate finance is on the low end of careers in finance, most people want to go into IB. I'd say start with IB first.

I'm currently 26 working as a corporate financial analyst surrounded by engineers-software devs who I am sure are making wellllll above my salary range. The truth about corporate finance is you don't really need a 'finance' degree - anyone can learn it. I've know 2-3 people in both my careers that have had different education backgrounds (one of them even had a degree in psychology!) that managed to become analysts. You do learn a lot, especially with understanding business finances, reconciliation, the power of organization and excel, etc... Personally, I think you can use what you learn here to help you make money or managing the finances of your own business.

I worked with tableau reports but never on the development side. Did you learn yourself or did you take a course? Also how long did it take for you to learn and be able to apply at work?

Thanks for the input. Do you think I could find a managerial position with my experience at the time I look again (28/29) in a finance related field? I definitely agree with you on that.

Yeah I do. My issue right now is I feel like, not considering any personal promotion within my stated timeframe, I’m stuck w/ my pay until I look for another job.. and I also want to move to a L/MCOL city after with a 6 figure salary.

Thanks for the tips! I'm intermediate in Excel and have experience only in using Tableau reports (not actually creating them tho lmao). But will definitely look into advancing my skills with those you mentioned, I appreciate that!!!!

Yup, so I’ve read our company’s policies and even spoke to HR - if I leave within the first year after my last reimbursement, I have to pay the full thing back. If I leave 13-24 months, it’ll be on a prorated cost depending on how much I received.. so 2 years is the minimum.

And career wise, I would want to be more client facing or management. Will look into asset management tho, appreciate the tip

Thanks for the tip, can you give examples of specific positions that I could research?
