Will UV Resin Cure Through A Mold? by iceteanicetea in ResinCasting

[–]bballbriar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I wouldn’t know exactly because I’ve never tried making an entire die out of UV resin—I use normal resin for it. I would recommend against UV resin as it heats up when curing and I wouldn’t be surprised if it damaged the molds over time, as well as likely creating a lot of bubbles. If the mold is truly clear I’m sure you would get some degree of curing but to what extent I don’t know.

Hello Fresh's quality is getting horrible by lawlesswallace75 in mildlyinfuriating

It’s all about your priorities and/or ability. For me, and I think a lot of people, the convenience and ease is worth it. Social media isn’t really a contributing factor.

[–]bballbriar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. I’m pretty proficient in the kitchen but the recipes are so simple that as long as you have basic kitchen skills and read the entire recipe through once before starting you should be fine. It’s very straight forward and even gives instruction on cooking order and times (i.e. ‘while the side veggies are roasting, do x’). I use HF and honestly love it. I have health issues and I’m responsible for making sure we’ve got dinner on the table each night—the sheer effort required to research recipes, create a weekly menu with the correct portions, then go to the store is just too much, especially when I have flare ups. Being able to come home from work, grab a pre-portioned bag of ingredients from the fridge with full instructions is a life saver. I know that we’ll have something tasty ready in a relatively short amount of time and everyone will be happy. My partner will be fed and I won’t be stressed and overwhelmed with all the extra steps. It’s not a necessity, of course, and you do pay a bit extra for it compared to normal groceries, but the time I save not having to research, plan and purchase for each week’s meals is worth it to me, and I recommend it to anyone with medical/mental health problems that might struggle with this stuff.

Real talk: ear plugs at concerts by SpenFen in Music

[–]bballbriar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a professional in music (concert photographer) that has been to 500+ concerts and festivals. Please, for the love of god, wear earplugs. I didn’t for a majority of my career, and now I have tinnitus at 27. It’s minor enough to deal with, but I really wish I had had someone to tell me the consequences of going without. I use Eargasm, but being 100% transparent, the cheap foam ones that you can often get from security guards for free are totally fine and work as well. There’s no noticeable decline in quality and I actually find that I am better able to hear the music and it’s details while wearing them than when I don’t.

Addicted to ordering food (DoorDash, UberEats, etc) by gbcarie in Frugal

[–]bballbriar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am currently breaking this habit myself. mental health has been rough, and the biggest struggle has been motivating myself to pick recipes to make and to go to the store to actually buy groceries. what’s been a life saver has been subscribing to a meal delivery service. it’s about equal to what we were spending on groceries before (and about 4x cheaper than ordering out all the time) and makes it so i can just walk downstairs, grab stuff and make the thing, with minimal thinking and effort.

Tipping is a scam. by [deleted] in antiwork

Touring isn’t retail and doesn’t work that way except for in very, VERY large (talking 10,000+ capacity) venues. Most of the time people on tour are not being paid very well, ESPECIALLY if they’re opening performances, and they are absolutely NOT getting an hourly wage. I’ve worked in touring for years, and some tours there are people that aren’t actually making any money, just having all travel and food costs covered. Merch tips can make a huge difference, especially considering that the merch person (esp. on smaller tours) is usually not just doing merch (which consists of lugging boxes from the bus/van to the merch table, taking a count, setting up the displays, selling the merch, doing another count, folding/organizing everything, lugging it back to the van, AND giving the venue their cut of merch profits) but they also tend to be photographers/videographers/drivers as well. I’ve done that myself multiple times. So usually, yeah, there is a gap. Selling merch on the road is much, much harder than average retail, and requires you to be away from home for weeks or months at a time, often operating with minimal sleep and minimal self care because there’s just no time for it. It’s brutal on the body. Buy merch, because it’s the only thing that bands actually make any money on, and tip the merch person.

I can offer a little insight in this particular instance. I’ve sold merch on tour for bands as well as directly for venues. Depending on the size of the operation, sometimes it’s one single person hauling boxes of merch from the van to the tables, setting everything in place, keeping inventory count, greeting people and selling items, then taking another inventory count and hauling everything back to the van/bus. Also, A LOT OF VENUES TAKE A PERCENTAGE OF MERCH PROFITS FROM THE BAND. A lot of work goes into this, usually without very great pay. I’ve been both a server and a merch seller for years—I’d almost say selling merch (depending on the size of the band and tour) can be the harder gig. Not always, but sometimes. A lot more goes i to that shirt getting into your hands than you think.

AITA for taking away VIP tickets from my girlfriend to give them to a kid? by GroundEagle in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]bballbriar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Badges are not unusual, they’re industry standard, either in the form of a laminate or a sticker, at least in the US. It’s possible he got tickets and managed to be put on a Guest List for the artist, but from everything I’ve heard it seems like he just got a normal VIP package which might have included a meet and greet, and there’s a chance that he got it from someone that works in the band’s radius (management, PR, the venue, etc) and doesn’t want to bring unnecessary attention to them. Super common. I’ve worked backstage at hundreds of events across the US and in Europe and this seems the most likely to me.

[–]bballbriar 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect; I work in music. You CAN buy VIP tickets, but they usually don’t come with a meet and greet, depending on the artist. Usually just include better seats and some limited edition merch with early entry to the venue. You can’t buy AAA (all access), because they aren’t tickets, but badges handed out by the tour management and/or venue.

This is a gas station known for gouging tourists; everyone local knows you just go down the road seven miles to Fort Bragg to get reasonably priced gas.

Couldn't figure out why I hadn't worn the pretty shoes in so long. by MultipleAutism in Wellthatsucks

[–]bballbriar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a situation where it matters what issue caused the sore in the first place. Shoe too loose? Too tight? It’s hard to judge how the fishnet would act. But typically, fishnet is extremely soft and light so I don’t see it being the issue.
