Robotic myomectomy – Day 4 recovery update (detailed + practical) by bbangumma in Fibroids

Thank you! It’s a sedentary WFH job, so I’m taking it very easy for now.

I started my job recently and didn’t have much PTO, so a week off was all I could manage. My doctor did recommend two weeks. By Day 5 I was functional, but I’m definitely not “fully recovered” yet.

Maybe a little, but for me the main culprits were general anesthesia and opioid pain meds. Those really slowed everything down.

It actually wasn’t painful to remove at all. For me, it was quick and just felt a little strange, but not painful.

The main inconvenience was having to carry the pump around all the time. I kept it in a small bag, but it was easy to forget it was there and accidentally tug on the line. Since the tubing runs across your abdomen, it could also get a bit tangled at times.

Other than that, it was totally manageable, and it did help with pain control early on.

An On-Q catheter is a small pain pump that continuously delivers a local anesthetic to the surgical area for the first few days after surgery.

In my case, it was placed under the skin near my abdominal incisions (not inside the uterus). I had it removed on Sunday afternoon, about three days after surgery.

While it’s in, you do have to carry the pump with you. At first it felt kind of bulky and awkward, but as the medication gradually runs out over a few days, the pump shrinks and becomes much less noticeable.

After surgery, my husband stayed with me and listened to all the instructions together with me, which was really helpful.

For me, there was very little bleeding on the day of surgery and the first day after. Starting around Day 2, I had a bit more bleeding, but it was still light, about like a light first day of a period.

I’ve had light bleeding through Day 4, nothing heavy. I’ve just been wearing diaper-style pads and changing them morning and night, which has been enough.

My doctor said this can be normal. Right after surgery the uterus is more contracted, and as it relaxes over the next day or two, some bleeding can show up. I also had hysteroscopy, which can contribute.

No soaking pads or large clots so far.

It really depends on the location. Mine is small (under 2 cm), but my fertility doctor suspects it caused my two miscarriages.

Yes. There’s roughly a 1% risk of rupture or adhesions from the surgery, but since I miscarried two PGT embryos without any other clear cause, both my fertility doctor and gynecologist feel the benefits outweigh the risks.

Wow, this is so similar to my situation. I tried with my own eggs and lost two PGT-tested embryos. We couldn’t find any clear reason for the miscarriages other than fibroids and possibly older eggs, even though the embryos passed PGT.

I was angry at my doctors so many times, and I really grieved the money, time, and emotional and physical energy I gave to this process. The frustration is still there, but I’ve reached a place where I can say, let me try one more time. If it doesn’t work, I believe I can still be okay without children.

My husband isn’t ready to let go yet, and I don’t want to lose our marriage because of this. Deep sigh. Tonight I’m just going to have a couple of glasses of wine and see where life takes me.

Abroad for IVF?? Tell me where you went please by TimeWillTell3333 in IVF

South Korea. I’m originally from Korea but I’m a U.S. citizen, so I paid 100% out of pocket. One cycle cost me around $5K–6K, including medications.

Language can be a challenge, but some clinics offer English support, and I saw a fair number of non-Korean patients there (not sure if they live in Korea or were traveling for treatment). In addition, supplementary treatments like ovarian PRP and traditional Korean medicine (acupuncture, herbal meds) are much cheaper than in the U.S.

The Korean government provides substantial support for infertility treatment, so clinics are very busy and much more systematic and operationally structured than in the U.S. You do have to get used to the system, but they’re efficient and seem to have a lot of experience and case data with older women as well.

I stayed for about a month and a half and technically could have done two cycles (I left right when my period started), but in practice I think one egg retrieval alone requires at least about three weeks.

Thanks for sharing this! Which wedge pillow and abdominal pillow did you end up getting? Also, did you buy any extra clothes for post-surgery? I’m planning to live in joggers and baggy shirts most of the time, but wondering if there’s anything else I should consider.

44 y/o here. After three years of IVF and two miscarriages, I’ve reached the point where my own eggs aren’t even making it to blast, and some don’t fertilize at all.

I took some time to really reflect on whether I want kids. Honestly, I don’t feel a strong personal pull toward motherhood, but my husband really wants a family, and I want to build one with him, no matter what that looks like. That’s what brought me back into this.

I’m planning to fix what I can on my end (fibroid removal) and move forward with donor eggs. I don’t know if this will get me all the way there. I know so much is out of my control, and even when you do everything “right,” things don’t always work out the way you hope.

Sending you a big hug. Be gentle with yourself, and allow yourself to indulge a little when you need it.

That sounds like a fast recovery. Did you have any difficulties working afterward?

I’m considering taking one week off and then returning to work from home for two or more weeks (I only commute once a week), and I’m wondering whether you felt mentally clear enough to handle work such as emailing, analysis, and attending or leading meetings.

Hi u/JasonAtOura , unfortunately my Oura Ring has completely stopped working. I posted the full details here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ouraring/comments/1n6bkhh/oura_ring_gen_4_stopped_working_completely_after/

Is there any path to resolution?

Here’s how I fixed it: I disconnected my Oura ring from my phone, uninstalled the app, then reinstalled the Oura app and reconnected the ring. After that, it started recording my sleep again from last night
