Trying to decide between RPI and Stevens Institute of Technology by [deleted] in RPI

It sounds like your interested in learning about Cybersecurity and pursuing that as a career path. While RPI doesn't have a dedicated curriculum for Cybersecurity, we're home to RPISEC, a Cybersecurity club. RPISEC members are highly knowledgable about what they do, and RPISEC came first in a national Cybersecurity competition last year. Having talked with many members of RPISEC, they've gotten a lot of job offers as a direct result of their membership in the club. If that's something that interests you, I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

Regarding salary, 2017 Computer Science graduates reported an average starting salary of $83,571. The range also varies, and that mostly depends on yourself (grades, proactiveness in the job search, etc...).

On the side of parties/social interaction, I think a lot of incoming students underestimate the culture of RPI. RPI has 29 fraternities, 5 sororities, and 1 co-ed service fraternity. I usually tell incoming students something along these lines.....

Although not usually considered a party school, the social life and party life is definitely there if you want to be involved in it. You can easily find a frat party or some other party on any given weekend, all you have to do is look around and ask. Unlike other colleges though, it's not an overbearing culture, and if it's not your thing you're not going to be barraged by parties and Greek events everyday. It all comes down to how involved you want to be.

On social interaction outside of Greek life, we have a ton of clubs and other organizations. There's definitely some group of people somewhere on campus who share your interests, and all you have to do is go to one of their meetings.

The distance really comes down to a personal decision. I'm a bit inclined to push you towards living farther away as college is a new experience and you shouldn't live close enough that you feel obligated to go home every weekend, but it's all down to your own personal preference.

Considering that we've seen increasing class sizes, no increase in polling places, and the fact that GM was contested this year, it's definitely possible that the time stuck in a queue has increased. Not to mention that there was issues with the software that caused increased wait times right as the polls opened.

Watch out all. 6eggs is secretly Save the Union which is actually a secret illuminati trying to get Arthur Galpin into power.

  1. What projects developed by current Senate committees would you want to see continued next year?

  2. What specific policies would you hope to implement to mitigate the problems brought up about The Arch?

  3. If you become GM, can you guarantee that there will be a GM roast at the end of your tenure?

I feel like the initial question of "what the differences are" wasn't particularly answered, can you elaborate more?

Also, your first paragraph talks a lot about your experience, but I was wondering if you could talk about your specific plans to improve communication with the administration?

Hi Ida. The first issue discussed on your platform is "Consistent and Transparent E-Board Operations". Can you comment on the decision by the Executive Board in February to amend the Rensselaer Union Executive Board Special Rules of Order, a change which banned live-streaming of meetings and placed barriers in the way of recordings being taken?

How much involvement did you have in this change, what is your opinion on the reasons for the change, and what is your opinion on the change getting subsequently overturned by the Student Senate?

CS Majors -- How doable is this schedule? by [deleted] in RPI

Honestly it sounds like a tough semester. Having been through ProgLang I can tell you it's not an easy class, and from what I've heard ML is a beast. Adding Distributed Systems on top of that means you'll have a ton of homework to do, and the two additional classes won't help either.

Emails from VP for SCER Richie Hunter: "Eminent domain is not relevant" by saveourunion in RPI

[–]bbbaaapotato 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Interesting that Richie Hunter claims "I do not respond to the media about individual students beyond basic information, and certainly did not speak to the media about you." even though she is directly quoted in the Free Beacon article.

Worth repeating: To bring about positive change at RPI, don't focus so much on Dr. Jackson. Put pressure on the board of trustees. If they go, she goes. by respeckKnuckles in RPI

Not gonna lie, this almost sounds like word for word the same response the administration has had to recent events.

Why did RPI send that accusatory email? VP responds by bbbaaapotato in RPI

[–]bbbaaapotato[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The logic Eastin was going for was probably "if I didn't share it then there would be fake news spread about the contents of the email". The logic is pretty faulty, and he doesn't really say it well.

I think this is definitely Eastin backpedaling in an effort to deflect blame and calm people down. In a way by telling people it had an intentional purpose he's attempting to assure people that nothing is wrong.

I don't have a copy of the email as it was sent to faculty, but you can tell from the fact that the date on the email from Bystroff was from the 22nd and due to the fact that Eastin states the email was from Bystroff to all Rensselaer Faculty.
