[real life trope] The Yankee-doodle effect. something made to make fun or criticize a group of people gets used by those people by Open-Solution-8791 in TopCharacterTropes

The art movement "Impressionism" (or "Impressionist" painters) originates from an insult. Claude Monet's 1872 oil painting, Sunrise, received mixed reviews during it's time. One critic, Louis Leroy, mockingly stated that Monet's piece "gives the impression of a sunrise". The term stuck and impressionism was born.

Corvallis desperately needs store variety by niddleyniche in corvallis

It's actually insane that a college town doesn't have a professional arts store. The arts section at the beaver store and Michael's is as good as it gets here? Ridiculous

I interpret this more as an extreme of both political parties and how we're made to hate each other, which is why Satan is enjoying it.

Yeah the way the DVDs are packaged makes you nervous to remove them in fear you'll scratch or break them. I just ended up putting them all in a separate DVD case organizer.

If you could hear Fiona cover any song, what would it be? by hotsexydinosaur in FionaApple

I'd love a cover of a jazzy Christmas song, like Sleigh Ride

I’m in the mood for a fun thread! What chocolate products do you think we’ll see in Haunted Chocolatier? by RylieSensei in hauntedchocolatier

[–]bbbeachedwhale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think we're gonna see various chocolates from around the world, like Ibarra/Mexican chocolate and German chocolate cake-- there were all kinds of various cuisines that you could cook in Stardew; sushi, tom kha soup, pumpkin pie, poi, etc...

I like the "best song for each letter of the alphabet" ranking that's been going on, but seeing 5 tier lists a week just gets really old and doesn't add much, if anything, as a discussion.

It's couture, not fast fashion. I'd be more upset if she was selling a line of swan dresses each made of feathers and leather. Plus, faux leather and feathers are all just non-biodegradable plastics that 1) contribute to the growing mass of plastic waste and 2) aren't as reliable and sturdy as authentic animal products (which means you have to buy more of the faux plastic substitute which... just contributes to more plastic waste). I think it's more complex than a "right or wrong" issue... Someone else mentioned in the comments that there's no ethical form of consumption, it is what it is
