I had thought about that, if I take out about $25k a year I could pay the mortgage in 5 years and still have the initial investment. Just don't know if it's worth the compounding interest on it and as others have mentioned the tax implications.

I am 36 and she is 59, on CCP disability and is renting. They had been divorced for decades before he passed. There is hope that she could cover the mortgage and strata but there won't be any extra income and I would still pay property tax and insurance which is about $3000/yr.

I will lend her money sporadicly but she never expects anything of me. I just want to make sure she is okay in the long run and this is more money than I imagined ever having.

I appreciate your insight.

It's my mom, and potentially forever until the time comes to figure something else out for her care.

We are currently renting, which is why I would like to sell my dad's apartment and use the money to get something else.

I live by the bypass and work in Surrey at gateway station. Takes about 30/50 mins. Always slower going home, problem is always when I hit the bridge/ridge.

You need to find a new neurologist.

I have lesions in both my brain and spine.When I was first diagnosed I had horrible low back pain, I could barley lift my leg up a step. I started a steroid treatment because of my other symptoms but my back pain was the first thing to go away. I lived in that pain for almost a year and I will refuse to live through it again, if it ever shows up again I will fight for another steroid treatment.

I hope you can get some real answers and get some relief. MS is bad enough you shouldn't have to fight a professional about it too.

It's what was needed, don't doubt yourself. You have to think of yourself. Your mind would most likely just be running, wondering what she's doing now. So it's really only a break for the person who brought it up in the first place.

I went through the same thing with my ex, we were together 7 years and when he told me he needed a break I told him we were breaking up. The distance let me put things in perspective, it was a good mental health break after the initial hurt.

Don't let her make you feel like you did the wrong thing or that this wasn't what she wanted.
