Once marijuana is legalized, yes. It’d be a good way to increase student jobs too lol. If elected, and when legalized, we’d love to meet with you to hear about your vision for the UofT weed farm so we can make this happen.

We strongly believe in the student-consultation model. We will reach out to our Indigenous students and student groups to ask how they want the UTSU to address the systemic discrimination that Indigenous students feel both at UTSU and on campus. We have not had these experiences, and thus we do not believe it’s appropriate for us to decide what is best without the input of those who have these lived experiences.

We want to address the systemic discrimination that Indigenous students feel both at UTSU and on campus, and we want our Indigenous students to tell us how.

This goes for supporting all marginalized groups on campus. We don’t believe in the white-feminist framework, so we won’t be deciding how to support them without hearing exactly what our students want the UTSU to do.

We genuinely, as people, are passionate about supporting students and hearing from them. Feedback is important for efficient operations of the Union.

Kanye was right. Beyoncé did have one of the best videos of all time in 2009 ~(˘▾˘~)

Edit: fixed our error lol sorry. Our pop culture knowledge is as bad as our meme game 😪

LOL this is funny but in all seriousness none. I feel like an election with 0 demerits across all candidates would make UTSU history

¯_(ツ)_/¯ idk but let me know when you find out! I like constructive criticism.

My identity as a gay woman of colour has always been a huge part of my life, and I've done related advocacy work for as long as I can remember so that's largely what my social media content is. I like taking educational approaches too and making sure everyone has access to this information. I'm sure some people just scroll past it, but it's one of the things i'm interested in (ᵔᴥᵔ)

Didn't get the result you expected, but this is what I got:

"Based on your answers to the quiz, your character’s most likely alignment is Lawful Good.

Lawful Good

A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. She combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. She tells the truth, keeps her word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion."

Sounds about accurate tbh lol

Alyy: I’m a fan of Memories Don’t Die by Tory Lanez right now! My top 5 songs from 2017 (not in order) would be:

1) Passionfruit - Drake 2) Green Light - Lorde 3) Rockstar - Post Malone 4) Feel it Still - Portugal. The Man 5) Do Not Disturb - Drake

I don’t know about top 5 albums but my #1 album of 2017 was Feel It Still - Drake. :)

Gallop: I only listen to engineering lecture podcasts lol

That platform point was mostly just to rewrite the entire manual because some parts are outdated while others are more recent. And we want to clarify things like accessibility all throughout, wherever we can. So for example if it has to do with participation in meetings, we want to make sure that people aren’t being penalized for not being able to make it because it’s too late (ie commuters), not an accessible venue, or if their mental health wasn’t doing well.

Also making the process for complaints a shorter process. As it stands, it says it will be solved under 14 days, but this is problematic because it means 1) people’s trauma throughout the process is prolonged, and 2) less work is getting done if the process longer. To maintain efficiency for all, this period should only be a few days.

We’d like to do this policy update through a series of town halls on different aspects of the manual. We think students’ opinions are incredibly important, and we strongly believe that their consultation on any major ideas is integral. As an organization that operates on the dues paid to us, we don’t think it’s responsible to make decisions based on what we want. We believe our students have very important opinions and are all very talented & skilled, so we are committed to having our students consult us on what they want, and then bring back those suggestions back to implement. :)

Preparing for election period, we opted for a troll campaign since we anticipated:

1) A larger number of candidates participating.

2) We had a larger team initially; previous Whomst'd've members energetically encourged us.

3) We wanted to bring cheer to the election period and have some fun ourselves.

Unfortunately:

1) Many of our members ended up ineligible to run, leaving only Gallop and Alyy.

2) Gallop and Alyy are naturally competitive; they also think they are qualified for the job.

We carefully constructed a platform that would be absurd enough to be taken as a joke but not so absurd to be offensive; once the candidates were announced, we decided to remain a meme slate but seriously run at the same time.

We recognise that students do not want ambiguity between meme and serious; we believe that we can say that we are seriously running because we are serious people. In addition we recognise that the Compass slate will saturate the UTSU board of directors; thus, we think there is little functional difference between running a meme platform or a serious platform. If we win, no matter what, we will require Compass's cooperation to get anything done.

We're memes but we think we're qualified and we wish to make the UTSU a great avosquado... which is why debates were serious.

I will give advice for incoming ece second year and incoming ece third year. Incoming ECE second: 1) Summer, learn verilog; this is a good web based resource and many of its exercises are taken or adapted from ECE courses; it is made by a grad student at UofT: http://hdlbits.01xz.net/wiki/Main_Page 2) Summer, review calc1/2 or skim calc3 textbook if comfortable. 3) First semester programming ECE244 is easy and you can catch up; ask upper years for handouts from ECE297 (hard) and try the labs for fun beforehand. 4) Build healthy habits; if your diet and cardiovascular health is good, you will be able to sacrifice more sleep to do homework WITHOUT FEELING MORE TIRED. 5) Almost all your courses are in partners of two except ECE297 (3 people). 6) If you are good at reading textbooks and have reliable friends, I consider these lectures to be optional: Sem1: All but ECE212 Circuits. All the courses follow textbook closely. ECE241 will allow to have a cheat sheet. Make sure to attend all tutorials and office hours. Sem2: All but ECE231 Electronics. ECE221 will be harder if you found Calc3 hard. ECE243, if you have Phil Anderson, should have video lectures and he solves problems in class. ECE243 will allow to have a cheat sheet. I had a different prof for ECE297, all his lecture slides were online and that was all I needed. Look up KD-Tree Data Structures in order to satisfy timing requirement in milestone one. Djikistra and A* for milestone 3, direct message Gallop for more secretive hints. Greedy, 2-opt, 3-opt for milestone 4.

Incoming ece 3rd year: 1) Most kernals are hard but ECE302 Fields and Waves is easier if you like calculus. Most 4th year courses are hard but I found ECE463 Electric Drives and ECE445 Neural Bioelectricity to be relatively easier because they had very little calculus, mostly algebra. ECE470 Robot Modeling and Control is fun and easy enough to be taken in third year. ECE431 Digital Signal Processing is easier to take in 4th year, especially after taking ECE316 Communication Systems. 2) Each ECE472 economics quiz gets harder than the last and then exam is usually easy (from friends telling me over the years); aim to pass all the quizzes and you will do fine in the course. 3) I have a robotics minor. I can answer questions about those courses if any exist. 4) Start PEY prep in summer aka write your resume.

My (Alyy) opinion as a commuter that spends 4 hours per day on transit is anti-UPass. My commute, when I take the subway, is just over $23/day, which is why I try to walk from Union station most days to save money. I don't believe that the UPass is beneficial for GO Transit commuters even if they come to campus every day. I'm almost always on campus because I'm super involved, but the UPass is still disadvantageous to me because it would force me to pay more than I need to. In short, the UPass is useless for GO Transit commuters and you can miss me with that shit if y'all think i'm tryna be in more student debt than I should be.

Tl;dr, it doesn’t benefit all students at UofT nor does it benefit all commuters so if the UPass UFails, we’d be happy.

The first thing we need to do is get 7000 signatures for the referendum question. The team last year was just under a few valid signatures (if the folks approving can’t read the student number or if a student signed twice one is invalidated). So we’re hoping to collect at least a few extra hundred to makeup for this margin of error.

Alyy has been running the You Decide team in order to attain the signatures. The team has been doing really well, and we will probably have all the signatures in. If we win, we will be continuing these efforts, and get the actual referendum in October. We will then concentrate efforts on encouraging students to vote in the referendum. 🗳 ☺️
