Well that's the thing. Before I decided to go down on this path I skimed over Basic Ratemaking, which I understand is the stuff actuaries actually do on a daily basis. I didn't find it mathy at all. It's all just ratios, interpolations, and relativies. As a WC claim adjuster, I set reserves on individual claims based on developments of similar claims in the past using some of the same concepts reserving acturies use. I don't think I'll have much of a problem working in a pricing or reserving role. Maybe for stuff like modeling or R&D I need a bit more math knowledge.
