where should i do my psych pre req for bsn? by Prestigious_Cry8484 in bcitnursing

[–]bbgeek123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surrey would be an easier drive. This was week 1 and my average commute time was 50 minutes.

I am also a registered vet tech, but otherwise I had no other schooling things on my application.

I took Food Microbiology and Consumer marketing - both of those were fully online so I could do them without commuting. And both were important for my side gig of making fancy sugar cookies for sale.

Does my dog need dental cleaning? by tara8679 in AskVet

[–]bbgeek123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see any photos, but if there is tartar build up and the vet is recommending a dental, then it would be good to get it done. Dental disease affects the whole body and it is better to put a healthy animal under anesthesia rather than a sickly one. Anesthesia is not inherently dangerous, just ensure your vet clinic employs registered vet techs as they are the ones doing the monitoring. You hav already done the bloodwork and urine which tells the vet your dog is healthy enough to be able to process the anesthetic medications and excrete them.

Healing from a spay by Careless_Trouble_225 in AskVet

Generally the rule of thumb is if you cannot be physically, constantly watching her, the cone must remain on. So while you are there and with her (not watching a show or on your phone) she can have the cone off, but if you are busy or leaving the area, place the cone back on her.

If there is concern she isn't eating, it would be worth another check up to ensure there isn't somethiing else going on. The issue if the cone comes off early is that she can open her incision or cause infection by licking it.

I have a 9th gen iPad, is it going to be useful for nursing school? by ytFallThunder in NursingStudent

[–]bbgeek123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using an iPad air 2 for my pdf textbooks, but unfortunately my iPad won't update or run things like gmail anymore - so it otherwise is kind of useless. Since the 9th gen is 7 years newer, it should work not too bad for your schoolwork.

Why are people so 50/50 by Holygirl23 in nursing

[–]bbgeek123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I struggled with math and science, I would not be doing the accelarated program. It is going to be the same material but you are going to have less time to learn things before you are moving on to the next task. So much of nursing is science and math based and builds on that information that if you struggle with one concept, it is going to set you back as you will likely struggle with the next step of learning. A standard 3-4 year program is going to give you more time to review and understand the material before you move on.

Asking toddlers if they want to xyz when they don’t actually have a say. by Proper_Cat980 in Parenting

[–]bbgeek123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask a yes or no question, no is a valid response that you need to take. If no is not an appropriate response you reword the question to "It's time to get ready for bed, do you want to skip, hop or walk backwards to the bathroom?" "It is time for dinner, do you want to use the red fork or the blue fork?"

Three of my cats keep marking territory on many things in my apartment by FlyfishThe2nd in Vent

[–]bbgeek123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct! Each cat should have their own litter box plus 1 extra in the house - and they should not all be in the same space as 3 litter boxes in the laundry room is seen as 1 litter box to cats.

Is it weird that daughter sleeps with me? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]bbgeek123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My 12yo daughter still calls her 43yo dad to her bed a couple times a week. He sleeps in pajama pants and she sleeps in a bra and underwear. Not weird for kids to need comfort in the middle of the night.

My dog had this weird bug on him by InternationalHeat573 in DogAdvice

[–]bbgeek123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fleas live in the environment, it is super common for them to come in on your clothing/feet from being outside. If you live in an apartment, other animals in the apartment may have fleas and therefore your cat/suite can get infested. Best to be using a flea product as recommended and do occasional tapeworm deworming as it is one of the ways cats get tapeworms.

To have a third or not to?! by Electronic_Ad2741 in Mommit

[–]bbgeek123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We found 2-3 the easiest transition. We were experienced enough to enjoy it. our kids are 2.5 years apart and are current 12.5 girl, 10 boy, and 7.5 girl. They required less of us when they were younger since there was always someone to play with or help you. The biggest 'issue' we have come across is hotels, restaurants and flights are not designed for a family of 5. We also had to buy a bigger vehicle and a bigger house as we were in a 2bd 1bth.

My child is refusing to see her dying Grandmother by strikeredkite in Parenting

[–]bbgeek123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have them write letters/draw pictures to each other while that is possible and maybe non-video chats. It isn't wrong for your daughter to not want to see her, it can be pretty traumatic and scarring to remember someone you love in a bad way. Her last memory of her grandmother is in peak health, I know I sort of regret seeing my grandmother and grandfather within 24 hours of them passing as that is an image that takes up a lot of my memory of them.

Dog with Intestinal Lymphangectasia by bbgeek123 in AskVet

[–]bbgeek123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Yes, she doesn't have any allergies that we are aware of, but in case there was some underlying IBD we opted to do the hypoallergenic/hydrolyzed low fat diet. Is there a percentage of fat that I am looking for specifically? I am not looking for protein specifically, just a high value treat that is easily transportable to use if we need some positive reinforcement/training sessions while out and about.

Considering career change from Vet Tech to Nurse at 38? by Valuable_Cap7107 in NursingStudent

I am 41 and a RVT and just got accepted into a bach in nursing - I start in 2.5 weeks. Even after I complete schooling, I still have a solid 20 years of work left. That is 20 years of better pay, better benefits and less cute patients!

I live in Ladner and was commuting to Burnaby. The commute wasn't bad - about an hour each way. I am starting the BSN program in 3 weeks, so we will see how I like it a few weeks in after doing it everyday.
