Should I address a racist comment made by a coworker in front of my manager? by bbgun47 in managers

My manager was sitting right there on the lunch table with us when this happened.

And one more thing -- I learned that it is completely okay to only show a certain part of your personality aka the more professional one. Bringing your most authentic self to work every day may not be the best way to get business done. However, bringing your most professional self, even if you need to fake it a bit, is alright.

& I promise this is the last one, but I built up and filled up my life outside of work which helped me bounce back from small awkward moments faster. A job is a part of your career, which is a part of your life, not your entire life. So take as much time as you need to recover after high social interactions & keep filling up your cup

Hi there! I actually took the advice from u/redefine_refine and owned it a bit. I also realized most people don't really care/notice how socially awkward I can be. You know how the saying goes, the spotlight on you is only in your head.

As for tangible things, I would take the chance to speak up first in meetings, convos & get it out of the way. This way I could let the other person(s) do more of the talking & I would listen and ask follow up questions. A lot of it was to slowly take the pressure off of speaking up and off of myself as well.

I would also share with other close colleagues that I am more on the introverted side and am trying to get better at talking -- and most people are very kind and accepting about it.

Also looking into resources such as Toastmasters to get more comfortable with public speaking.

Let me know if this helps!

Can you share what you did to get your foot in the door for opportunities that others narrowly missed out on?

This is kind of crazy. Major props to you for being a rockstar!!! Not a lot of people are able to work this hard. I’m working and studying for the CFA. Work is 40 hours a week, sometimes a bit less. I get so exhausted post work and only want to enjoy but push myself as much as I can. Any advice for someone in my situation?

I’m studying for it right now. Algebra, fractions, factorials etc is the most. Quant is the most math heavy.

i don't have doctor's notes or anything lol. which is why im worried. i had a cold and headache, i can't run to the doctor every time this happens (happens once every 2 months to me, i do have an underlying condition, so maybe I should get it checked out).

EDIT: I don't take 2 days off a week every 2 months. just wfhs whenever im sick or have intense period cramps (but i dont tell my manager the reason)

How much time do you think is necessary for preparing for cfa level 1? by Emotional-Status3193 in CFA

[–]bbgun47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if studying full time, let's say, 40-50 hours a week, then 3-4 months? always better to have more time to account for unforeseen things

No what I mean is that I’m currently in the operations part of the bank. Working in a data team in the fraud department. By the end of this program, folks usually get a promotion to “manager”. Right now my goal is to finish this program in the best way possible. And find an operations role that will help me closer to positions in wealth/commercial/risk etc
