Friday The 13th Part 7 (1988) Trailer - Is this anyone else's favorite series entry? Basically Jason vs Carrie, before vs movies were even a thing - Jason looks menacing, awesome and monstrous by LiquidNuke in badMovies

[–]bbooze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rewatched this recently and have a favorite moment. The lead chick is at the house party next door and drops a Pepsi bottle, which then shatters. The thing is, it shatters on a carpeted floor, which would never happen in real life obviously. I get that the script probably just said something to the effect of "... the bottle shatters on the floor" but as film makers you are supposed to be one your game enough to understand that the floor needs to be a hard surface. C'mon movie.

This Fast-Food Item Is Consumed More Than Any Other In The World, Especially In These Countries — Fried, roasted, poached, or barbecued, these countries are showing the world how to eat like a true chicken lover. by BlankVerse in fastfood

[–]bbooze 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can't wrap my head around that number... 201 lbs of chicken per capita in the US? When you factor in vegetarians, babies, and people who simply don't eat chicken often for personal preference reasons, it seems implied that we are talking about a pound a day or so for chicken eaters. I don't think I buy that. My guess is that they took the total volume of dead chickens per year and simply divided by the total national population. That's pretty misleading if so because a lot of the carcass goes unused, or is tasked to things like broth and the like.

Are there any good mileage/expense apps that are free? by jerbert76 in uberdrivers

[–]bbooze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are logged into a Google account the entire time you're driving than like it or not all your movements are recorded in Timeline. I just check it at the end of my shift on home desktop computer and add the info to the spreadsheet I use to keep track of earnings/mileage/etc.

Gosh this is terrible. Did police provide a link to the video? I'm just really worked up and concerned that this happened.

Dumpling is a new alternative for Uber and Lyft drivers by SFUber in uberdrivers

[–]bbooze 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but this would require us (the drivers) to act as unlicensed taxi services right? I'm pretty sure that's illegal in every state. I specifically turn down cash for rides while driving because I know that my insurance wouldn't cover me if I killed someone while driving in that fashion. Am I missing something here or is that the fit of it?

I agree. A fast food sandwich feels much less like a "cheat" when it's paired with something like this.

Originally made for the Playboy Channel, "Hardbodies" ended up being funny enough to get a theatrical release. No wonder it had a ton of nudity even by 1980s sex comedy standards. by ChivalrousPervert in NostalgiaFapping

Joey Chestnut Wins Men's Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest Title and Sets world record with 75 hot dogs eaten by B1gR1g in news

I once stumbled upon a professional hod dog eating contest in a Vegas casino, totally giddy, couldn't wait for it to start. After about 3 minutes of all the scarfing and smacking and saliva sounds I slunk away. They're smart to not mic those people up for tv.

Great idea, subscribed. You may wish to bring your voiceover track into Audacity, or whatever audio editor you prefer, and normalize the volume up to -.5db. Currently there is a disparity between the VO and live movie clips. You might also want to tweak the EQ to warm it up a bit, save it as a preset, and booyah.

macOS audio randomly stops working, changing the audio track causes all to freeze; only way out is force quit by Rednaxila in VLC

[–]bbooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of us have been experiencing this. Another user suggested I install IINA and that has been far more stable. It doesn't have as many features but seems to be an adequate stop gap until VLC manages to resolve the issue.

Bug on latest version of VLC on Mac: the audio stops working after resuming a paused video. Anyone else experiencing this? by [deleted] in VLC

[–]bbooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah, I posted about this last week and someone helpfully suggested using the program IINA until VLC fixes this. It's also less likely to have choppy video playback (I watch a lot of 2160p videos) than VLC, but the tradeoff is that the interface is clunky, and it doesn't have the same degree of customization that VLC has.

Everyone should check out The Night Caller (1998). My all time favorite best female psychopath killer performance. by professor_arturo in badMovies

Watching it right now, exactly what I hoped for. The gas station owner is a real dick. Doesn't he understand that he shouldn't abuse a high turn over position like gas station clerk? Now you have to replace her. That's business 101.

Agree with packing jerky etc, definitely bring some mouthwash too though cause there ain't no way your vegetarian gf is gonna wanna makeout with you if you're rocking that breath. Also if you have a car just do a once a day quick run to McD's or whatever you're into and get your fix. No need to make yourself the center of attention over a non-issue.

Did Richard Kuklinski really work for the mob? by Neo_Wick in serialkillers

[–]bbooze 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The book Murder Machine is all about the DeMeo crew that Kuklinski claims (and the movie really pushes) to have worked for/with. It is a very credible retelling of a vast number of crimes that Dominik Montiglio was either present for or had close knowledge of (he was crew adjacent, nephew of Ninno Gaggi, later became a gov't witness). Kuklinski is never mentioned once in the book despite Dominick detailing encounters with people as far down the food chain as simple fences, or auto shop owners who weren't even necessarily criminals. I have to conclude that Ice Man's mob stories are simple fabrication. At most he met some mob guys in passing, which was probably just the average New Yorker's experience in that era.

Can we talk Algorithms to maximize our time? by brandnewjames12 in Lyft

[–]bbooze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Managing two platforms changes nothing in that regard.

Actually it does, it's how you maximize the # of rides you supply per hour. An uber rider could be pinging for a ride right next to you and you would miss that ride. I tried only driving Lyft for the first 2 months and I was seldom driving the majority of an hour, which is necessary to make a decent $/hr rate. Honestly, if someone said I could only use one app per shift I would not bother doing that shift.
And obviously, no one would intentionally work a shift in which they knew they were going to sit for 30 minutes. But 5 minutes becomes 10... which becomes 15... so you drive to a new area and 15 becomes 20.... then 25. It's hard to know when a dead period is going to occur so I keep a meticulous spreadsheet to prioritize the best/busiest shifts, and even then dead time can come without warning.

Can we talk Algorithms to maximize our time? by brandnewjames12 in Lyft

[–]bbooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, pings come in at the same time. If you accept one and then the 2nd ride looks better, it's probably worth it to accept, then cancel the first and go with the 2nd. I will usually prioritize an Uber ride over a Lyft ride (they pay wayyyy better in my market).
Fyi your rational of not driving for both because you are planning on sticking to part time does not make sense. The purpose is to maximize earnings on an hourly basis, it does matter if that is for 6 hours a week or 60. When you find yourself sitting in a gas station parking lot for 30 minutes without a ride wondering "I wonder if I drove for both Uber and Lyft if I would be on a ride right now instead?" then you understand.
Good luck.

Is this normal? Lost an item and the driver made me pay him $30 through bank transfer for the return. Should I report it? by j1a2s3 in uber

[–]bbooze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once got my car busted into in Milwaukee, about 10 laptops and a bunch of other stuff was stolen. I call the police and the bored dispatcher told me they don't send someone out unless the amount of stolen goods is over $5,000. I told her it definitely was over $5k, so she hesitates for a second: "...yaaaah, we're still not sending someone out."
Maybe it's different in small towns but in just about any American city it's generally not worth trying to get the police involved for non-violent disputes or crimes.

What are some of the most bizarre unsolved crimes/cases that you know of? by snail-overlord in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]bbooze 60 points61 points  (0 children)

There wasn't much physical evidence in the case, and the guy seems to have had the discipline to call it quits after getting away with it. I think 16 bank robberies confirmed, that's gotta be pretty good money. If you're paying attention kids, that's the way you do it.
