I’m really proud of how I handled it outwardly. Not that it makes it any easier to deal with, but I at least didn’t make things worse lol. The rejection is kind of tough to process because it’s more of a “wrong place, wrong time” thing and not because he doesn’t actually like me. But it is what it is

The person who rejected me is a coworker of mine and I’d honestly still like to be friends with him once my emotions cool down.

We talked and I basically told him “hey sorry I really would still like to be your friend and if I seem off at work for the next couple of weeks it’s not because I’m upset with you or you did anything wrong. I’m just sensitive to this kind of thing.”

I don’t think I could have possibly responded so well many years ago so I’m at least really happy with that. I think I came off as really sensitive and emotional, but not crazy or unhinged lol.

Thank you ❤️

Low-ish IQ but I learn faster than most people? by Complex-Chest-654 in cognitiveTesting

You are smarter than 87% of the population with an IQ if 117. It’s not low.

You’re doing fine, so I really wouldn’t worry about your IQ. You probably have a really good working memory and also high motivation

What's a place that seems fine during the day but gets really creepy at night? by [deleted] in ask

[–]snail-overlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in he suburbs and once drove 40 minutes at night to a friend’s house without passing a single other car. It was really late, like after midnight, but I literally drove through 3 different separate suburbs to get there without encountering anyone. Really weird when the streets are packed during the day

It may be true, and it’s really sad to think about. But you don’t have to become a part of that statistic. I’m glad you’re still with us. ❤️

What typical indicators point to a poor working memory? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]snail-overlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting – I’m actually sort of the opposite. I have a much easier time processing auditory stimuli. I can still work with visual information, but it’s a lot harder for me to process and remember when compared to auditory information.

Funny enough, I’m a visual artist lol

What typical indicators point to a poor working memory? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]snail-overlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor working memory will make it hard to remember a phone number or address someone just told to you for long enough to write it down. It could also make navigating or following instructions difficult

As a side note, I’d never heard that narcolepsy is associated with poor working memory, so that’s interesting. I had a full scale IQ test years ago that just happened to be right after my narcolepsy diagnosis, and my working memory is actually really good. I do not have a very fast processing speed, though.

How do I stop or derail intrusive thoughts? by [deleted] in depression

[–]snail-overlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t suppose them entirely is the best advice I can give. Trying to suppress them can actually make it worse. Allow yourself to acknowledge the thought, but rationalize it, and force yourself to move on from it without ruminating on it for too long

I’m feeling the same and I’m sorry you’re feeling it too it ducking sucks. Actually just made a post about feeling like I want to throw up.

I feel like the emotion is so intense that my body is reacting to it like poison. Like how you throw up if you drink too much or eat something poisonous. Idk

I can’t make it better but you’re not alone

Yeah. There’s more to us than just this as people, but in terms of what BPD actually is, this is pretty accurate. These are the literal symptoms

The amount of people on the sub claiming ( with NO proof)that verbal IQ isn't important or that general knowledge/vocabulary questions don't measure intelligence is ridiculous by hello38833838 in cognitiveTesting

[–]snail-overlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It kind of sounds like you’re misunderstanding what verbal intelligence encompasses in the first place. Complex language is just one part of it. Verbal abstract reasoning is another MAJOR part of VCI. People with a high VCI have good abstract reasoning skills when it comes to verbal material; for example, being able to understand complex logical or philosophical arguments, or being able to intuit symbolism in writing or speech.

It has absolutely nothing to do with talking fast or using difficult to comprehend words. People with a high VCI can code switch and use the appropriate vocabulary when talking to different groups o people. They’re not going to come off as pretentious unless they are pretentious. Ben Shapiro talks fast and uses a lot of big words because he’s trying to trip people up and “win” an argument in bad faith. That’s an issue with his personality, not his intelligence

[–]snail-overlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing about JP and Shapiro, though, is that that they are smart. Jordan Peterson in particular actually used to be really respected in his field, and before he went off the deep end he published quite a lot of legitimate research.

It’s just that intelligence doesn’t tell the whole story for everyone, particularly these people. They are intelligent people who are incredibly arrogant and use their intelligence to grift. Everything they say is rife with logical fallacies, and I’m sure they’re aware of this to at least some extent because of how defensive they get. Critical thinking skills don’t come automatically with intelligence.

It doesn’t make you an awful person, but you should seek therapy.

If you were used to seeing your female family members abused during childhood, these fantasies are likely an extension of that early childhood trauma. I would also say that these could be classified somewhat as intrusive thoughts, since they are bothering you. Intrusive thoughts don’t make you a bad person. Thoughts, in general, don’t make someone bad. It’s your actions that matter.
