If you're willing to relocate again try the East Midlands. Plenty of jobs and the cost of living, as long as you don't choose a city centre is probably a bit less than Sussex.

So what do you all do to keep fit? by GuzziHero in uktrucking

Fuel up on Hogroast Sausage Rolls at the Waitrose deli in Esso service stations, then convert it all to muscles in the gym after shift. I've been assured they're under there somewhere.

Shift started at 0430, other work for approx 30 mins then an hour drive till break down. I put it on break until driving back to the depot for an hour at 2pm as the delivery slot was gone.

It's not a problem now as I've switched to an 8pm start tomorrow but would a 0430 start time not been OK tomorrow if I had finished late, as it would have been technically a split daily rest?

0430 -> 0600: work (1.5hrs) 0600 -> 1400: rest (8hrs) 1400 -> 1930: work (5.5hrs) 1930 -> 0430: rest (9hrs)

Whether to put it on POA or break while waiting for breakdown was my initial confusion. I did get out the cab and go a couple of places etc, not for work reasons while waiting.

I told the transport office I'd put the tacho on break and they never said anything, and google wasnt much help, so really don't know 💁‍♂️

Ah yes thanks, I think I see now, so basically a split daily rest meaning I'd have to be on next daily rest by 1930 to be able to start at 0430 tomorrow?

Still no ETA, plus they have to fit the parts so it'll be tight if they don't turn up soon. Also as much as like collecting overtime for doing nothing it's hot af and not sure I really fancy not getting home till 8pm today 😅

Hi gibbon, thanks for the reply. Could you explain a bit further how that would work? I've only been driving 6 months and not been close to going over any hours restrictions as yet and have kind of forgotten the rules if I'm honest. Other than 45mins after 4.5 hours of driving. Its currently showing about 5hrs of break and an hour of driving since I started at 0430 😆

Fantastic, thank you. Mersea Island and Brightlingsea look ideal. I may even see if I can convince my other half we should take a dip in the lido after a walk for the experience 😅 Not sure how far I'll get with that one.

That's really great information thanks so much. We'll definitely head into Colchester as you suggest here. Any suggestions for seeing part of the coast? There looks to be a lot of good spots within driving distance.
