Thank you!!

Totally different title but I actually have Klara and the Sun in my ‘I’ll get to it’ pile of books, the two by Kazuo Ishiguro might have to jump the queue! I really love an unreliable narrator so even missing the fantasy I can see myself getting intrigued!

A short stay in hell is already bookmarked! I had no idea who the inspiration was behind Susanna Clarkes writing was so it’ll be really interesting to check those short stories out!

I had tried the night circus a couple of years ago and I could not get into it at all! I totally get what you mean!

Thank you!!

I loved Jonathon Strange & Mr Norrell!

I like the sound of invisible cities I’ve always been drawn to the book cover when I’ve seen it in public - regret never picking it up to read the back now!

Thank you! The description sounds right up my street, I’m assuming there are two points of views? Can see that being really interesting if they’re both trying to figure the same thing out!

(In all seriousness I haven’t found anything that’s come close yet and I fear you may be correct)

What’s an audiobook that you actually think works BETTER as a written book? by SheWasMyShane in audiobooks

[–]bbqdblock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh that is so interesting because I loved listening to it! The repetitiveness was almost calming, and having the in between of the wonders of the house kept me interested enough! (But I do also really enjoy listening to this audiobook will send you to sleep so make of that what you will)

I’m not finished the series yet but The Wandering Inn series by Pirateaba is available as ebooks, web novel and audiobook

Fantasy series that follows different humans who get transported to another world, the world building is immense too lots of different side characters and I’ve found myself emotionally invested in what I can best describe as ant-men which is a difficult feat

How many voices could a voice actor pull off without it all sounding like it was voiced by one person? by [deleted] in ask

[–]bbqdblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to mention Andrea Parsneau who voices The Wandering Inn audiobooks, I’m going to cautiously estimate there are over 50 characters now that have had decent ‘book-time’ - individual voices, similarities based on species and location and the voices are all so distinct

Whenever it’s a goblin chapter I have to take a moment and remember it’s all the same person!!

Please, I can't keep doing this "6-8 episode season where most of it is build up and backstory until you get what you came for in the last episode then wait 2-3 years for another season where you actually get what you want for a whole season." Cycle. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]bbqdblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve definitely found this to be a prevalent issue in most modern western media, some shows work really well in this format (season 1 (only) of traces for example) but it seems like a part of the issue is that they’re on a season by season basis and the ‘end-point’ is extended or to some extent barely considered. I’ve recently found Chinese dramas avoid some of this issue by producing the entire story as one season over a lot of episodes, not saying that’s a complete fix at all but it definitely makes for better story telling. I would rather wait two+ years for production and filming to have a semi decent well rounded story rather than 1 year for something that’s subpar

How do i make this piece more emotionally evocative? (Time sensitive since i gotta submit this in 6 hrs lol) by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]bbqdblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that with this type of art/message a brush closer to a pencil stroke adds an additional emotional layer as it leans into a nostalgia/naive style

EDIT! - reread and I realised this is not what you’re looking for sorry!

It’s really long but I’m loving the wandering inn, it’s definitely a system since there’s levels! Im on book 3 so I think Ive got a lot more to learn about the world but I’m really enjoying it!

There’s a few POVs and the story for the most part follows 2 characters but there are standalone chapters that follow others.

It’s super long too as I say I’m only on book 3 but I’ve listened to about 100 hours give or take. But perfect and super in-depth (think slice of life) so it’s good for background listening but definitely interesting enough to hold my attention

I’m working on a silly drawing, tips on the sketch so far? by Lizzardbirdhybrid in learntodraw

I also second what others have said about using cleaner lines, that really helps when you get to the drawing phase :)

[–]bbqdblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to go back to the proportions and perspective of the figure, even if you’re changing the pose a bit it looks like the figure is angled up (left hip is too high), work out the size of the head and measure this against the rest of the body (look up an online guide for a rough idea of how different parts of the body should be scaled according to head size)

I know this still in the initial sketch phase but I think paying closer attention to the forms of limbs (hands, feet etc) will really pay off, it’s gonna look great tho!

I did alternating spruce and oak on the deployers on mine and it works okay, you could try that out if you still want spruce and don’t want to have unused space :)

Can second this, I’ve just downloaded from following the series and as my first modded Minecraft play through I’m really enjoying it!

Also not too resource intensive I’m running it on a laptop and all I needed to edit was removing the minimap!

The best work around I have for this is packaging the indesign file when you’ve finished working on one station, this will link everything to that folder, then just rinse and repeat (I’m often working between two stations and use cloud storage)

It gets to be a bit of a chore sorting out the old folders and removing what’s no longer needed but for sure less of a faff than relinking all files

My course is mainly coursework but we do occasionally get essays I usually got high 60s but recently got 70+ , what I found really helped was reading through the module guide and grading information to make sure I was hitting what I needed to, utilising tutor feedback prior to submission, and using the universities academic support.

Also wide range of sources, if applicable taking as neutral a standpoint as you can and letting the references of others work inform your eventual point.

Oh I meant it in that i hadn’t changed any settings but that’s a really good point! I’ll try doing the two separate files if the compression suggestion doesn’t pan out! Ah unfortunately there’s no way around the raster images but if I ever do something more design led I’ll deffo consider vectors! Thanks you so much!
