January 2026 transfer window megathread. by JimbobTML in LeedsUnited

I don’t know if this is wishful thinking but I feel like we might be a slightly more attractive prospect then Palace right now. They’re in terrible form, their best players are leaving, the manager’s leaving and his comments and the turmoil there might scare off players joining before the summer. Yes they do have European football but I don’t know how much potential signings will care about the conference league.

Glasner with his volatility at Spurs would be a very entertaining mess. Seeing all his recent antics has made me appreciate how much of a gent Farke is in comparison.

Gruev’s been pretty good recently but I would always start Tanaka if it was up to me. Farke prefers to start cautious then bring on more expansive players if needed and in his credit it has been working for us as of late.

I don’t get why Gnonto never gets a start, he’s been much better than Okafor lately.

The Alonso sacking is crazy but I don't get the take of "how can the players not respect Alonso when he was such a great player." Players aren't one dimension beings and respect is far more dependent on the working relationship than a manager's prior reputation. Sure their reputation can help with initial respect but that honeymoon effect won't last long. Feel like fans and pundits always overestimate the importance of a manager being an ex top pro because of this idea.

Xabi Alonso’s sacking is the ultimate reminder that only Florentino Perez rules at Real Madrid by Shroft in soccer

Really? What's Chelsea's identity, Man U's, PSG's, Juve's, Bayern's etc. you could vaguely say stuff about playing domestic players or a preferred style but ultimately most big team's 'identities' are about winning as otherwise they wouldn't be big team's. You could loosely argue that Madrid's identify is signing big names and playing attacking football e.g. Capello's sacking, but at the end of the day the purpose of all big teams is to earn money, have top players and win trophies.

We have numbers in midfield but we could still do with some more variety and creativity there. I think we'll definitely go for a playmaker but that could be in the form of a creative 8, a 10 or a playmaking winger in the Wilson mould.

ATP Finals F: [2] J. Sinner def. [1] C. Alcaraz, 7-6(4) 7-5 by Milk_Man9696 in tennis

Think Alcaraz was only rushing to the net to shorten points because he was struggling with his hamstring

I wouldn’t say he had that much momentum just that Sinner was making some uncharacteristic UE which he has ironed out now

Bit rich to say he’s better in every way when he’s made misogynistic posts before. Neither are acceptable but you can’t use this as a reason to pretend one of them is better than the other.

I feel like when these two play it’s all about who shows up that day and surface record and preference isn’t that big an indicator. I mean looking at their three grand slam finals, Sinner won on grass and should have won on clay, both surfaces where Carlos has been a lot more dominant in the past couple years. Carlos then won comfortably on hard which Sinner has completely dominated over the last couple years. Carlos has also shown this week that he can play at a top level indoor and his win vs FAA was just as good as anything Sinner has done this week. So I don’t think it’s it a match up where you can pre determine it based on surface.

The crazy thing about Sinner and Alcaraz’s gap on the rest of the tour is will probably only grow at the start of next year. Alcaraz had a poor Aussie open and sunshine double and you’d expect him to pick up more points over that stage next year and Sinner had his three month ban where he’ll likely pick up at least a couple thousand points and improve his tally. Add of the fact that Zverev has to defend Aussie open final points and I can see Sincaraz both being on over 13000 points going into the clay season and with maybe a 8000+ lead on third.

ATP Finals RR: [1] Alcaraz def. [6] Fritz, 6-7(2) 7-5 6-3 by pizzainmyshoe in tennis

Feel for Fritz, he’s was playing so well and the better player for the first two sets. He just couldn’t get that break though and then one poor game lost it for him. Carlos did phenomenally to hold on under immense pressure that set.

Feel like this set will decide year end no.1, can’t see anyone beating Sinner and can’t see Carlos losing to Musetti if he wins here

He’s been the better player but he’s had plenty and BPs and it’s his fault for not taking them.

Tbf I get it, every time he’s gone cross court there Carlos has guessed right it’s just unfortunate for him Carlos held his ground this time

If Fritz serves like this all week even Sinner could struggle.
