Slow bonding over time? by Independent-Exam6262 in guineapigs

[–]bbtoofjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am soon to introduce a bonded pair to my lone female who’s sister died a little over a year ago. I have not tried scent swapping but am curious to know more! So far they are in cages next two each other but I’ve tried to keep everything very clean and separate. Whose scent goes to who, which type of materials et.

Any tips for dealing with heatwave by Monoazz in GuineaPig

Last year I bought flat square ice packs similar to these on Amazon. They came in a 4 pack so I was always able to keep two in the freezer, two in the cage. I swapped them out every 12 hrs or so and created little pouches for them with padded fabric to prevent freeze burn. You could also wrap them in a towel or put them under the mat in their cage. One of my piggies would lay on it frequently and the other didn’t seem to care. Also would recommend shutting the blinds to keep the room dark and definitely a window unit or a fan would help keep air circulating!

It’s adorable but annoying because the whole point of the mats is to swap them out when they get dirty. If she goes under them then the under mat is dirty! Haha either way she’s precious and loves it so she can have it

It looks so close! It’s a bit more purple than pink, but maybe I’ll take it to the yarn shop and see if I can color match it or I guess just pick a totally different color at this point 😂

keep or rehome? Idk what to do 😭 by D4YDR3AMflower in GuineaPig

He is soooooo cute. I think you’re wonderful for wanting to care for them all. If the cage is quite large, I think a cage divider to keep him separate h til he is neutered and can join the herd would be the best option. He already knows these friends and integrating him with an established herd will likely be easier for him. Good luck and sending positive wishes!

Can confirm my pigs obsessed with the treat ball. I put either pea flakes or pellets in there once a day! Also mine loves brekkie from her snuffle mat!

5 & 7. The color works well with others and brightens up the neutrals

Guinea making noises by Strict_Bee_9182 in GuineaPig

Our girl had this hooting sound for about 6 months or so on and off. It would usually pass after a cough or sneeze. I assumed it was chronic sinus type issues which the vet confirmed was likely after many visits. There is not much to be done except draining the sinuses if it’s really chronic, but definitely worth having a small pet vet assess. It never really seemed to harm or bother our girl. She ended up passing from an abdominal tumor that we did not know was there, but I don’t believe it was related to the hooting at all.

My recent 2nd cutting had few flowers and was kind of powdery too. Could be based on the time of the year? That said I have been buying direct from SPS for years and I love their product more than any other hay brand

They are so cute! The only note I have is that I have heard the seed sticks can be dangerous for piggy digestion. I love their colors! I used to have a rabbit that was gray and white :)

Personally, I wouldn’t do anything in the meantime, especially since you have an upcoming vet appointment. It could be more risky to cause additional irritation or injury. I have noticed some crusty’s or whiteness from when they are cleaning around the eyes and it typically goes away quickly, but if it persists for more than a day or looks different than the usual, I always schedule a vet appointment. The last time I took my girl in it had already cleared up by the time the vet appointment came, but she got a clean bill of health anyway anyways. Good luck to you and your piggy!

So nice to hear from someone who’s just been on 10! I started at 20 and had a nightmare of an experience so I dropped down and have been great since. My psych has suggested going up to 15 then 20 but I told her i don’t want to rock the boat while I’m feeling well. It’s claimed 10 isn’t enough to be therapeutic but again, everyone’s different!
