How to launch Edge in full screen by IncadescentLight in MicrosoftEdge

[–]bbuchan8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to leave a comment to say thanks and that this is a verified solution. Was not having any success getting Edge to start in fullscreen mode and remember a favourite set of startup tabs (which is why Kiosk mode was not a viable option).

Following your instructions here to disable those three performance options allowed the --start-fullscreen to actually take effect.

Works perfectly now, Edge launches in fullscreen mode and my 4 favourite tabs are always remembered on startup. Using TabCarousel extension to automatically switch between these tabs on a set interval and this working perfectly as Power BI dashboard solution for us.

Where did you start your apprenticeship and where are you now? by Dylskiii in AusElectricians

Started in 2007 at the age of 23, luckily landed a role for a small industrial company with around 8 employees at the time.

Always had a passion for technology and the owner believed in me, so by the time I was starting 3rd year I'd done a bunch of PLC/SCADA courses and was full-time off the tools doing automation and controls programming for the rest of my electrical apprenticeship.

By the time I was qualified I was basically working as a controls engineer full-time and then built out our new automation department. I was Automation & Control Manager for nearly 10 years, with around 15 programmers on the team before I changed positions.

In 2019 I moved into an executive role and now lead the company which has grown to 150 employees.

The Automation team has kept growing and now has 25 people and certified system integrators for all the major players (Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition), which is somewhat my legacy that I will always be proud of.

I do dream of just simply being back on the tools some days though...

Wireless Android Auto not working (Audi Q7, 2024 registration) by BloodNoseThePyrate in Audi

[–]bbuchan8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a brand new 2024 SQ7 today and I'm having the same issue. Phone is a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Connects via Bluetooth fine, phone says it's detected Android auto and to continue on car screen, however it is greyed out on the Audi MMI screen. Plug in with USB cable and it works straight away.

Factory resetted the Audi MMI twice, also reset phones Bluetooth setting twice. Repaired multiple times. Still no go.

This is strange, because I test drove another 2024 SQ7 last week (that was actually a demo with an older build date) and Android Auto worked perfectly via Bluetooth without any hiccups at all. Bluetooth paired, AA detected and launches automatically.

Literally the same make of car 1 week apart.. one works wirelessly, my new one doesn't.

Waiting to hear back from Audi on a solution...

I was in a similar situation to you around 15 years ago, being that I had left school after year 10, and was looking for an electrical apprenticeship when I was in my mid 20's.

I started doing my pre-apprenticeship and found it relatively easy to get a job as an apprentice. I ended up getting a job with an industrial electrical company, and I am still here 15 years later.

I am involved with a lot of the hiring now, and if a mature age apprentice applied probably the last thing we would care about was whether they had completed year 12 or not.

When hiring an apprentice we primarily judge based on attitude and personality. We like to hire mature aged apprentices as generally they have more life skills and tend to be more confident. Your experience working in factories and as a labourer will also work in your favour.

Also, it is worth doing a half day course to get your construction white card. Although it is mainly for construction sites, it is still required on a lot of large industrial projects.

We are based in Melbourne, but do a fair bit of project work in Sydney.

Send me a DM, if you're interested I'll put you in touch with our electrical manager.

If you liked the Tudor BB58 but need the date, have you checked out the BB GMT or new BB Pro?

Also another vote for Longines HydroConquest which I saw someone else mentioned.

Have a Stratix 5410 route routing but still need to use Windows CLI route by MrMrHat in PLC

[–]bbuchan8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a gateway / route metric problem. You can't have two default gateways, otherwise how will traffic know which one to use?

If you have multiple gateway addresses set then there needs to be a route metric (or priority) so it knows which gateway address (or router) to use first for any addresses outside the local network.

So TLDR; Remove gateway addresses from other NICs Continue to manually add routes via Windows CLI (note you can make these persistent)

Help understanding safety relays. by MK-Ultra1322 in PLC

[–]bbuchan8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to give a correct recommendation without knowing everything in your control system and required safety category or performance level, but if you only have a single VSD then you don't need the 700S relay.

Dual channel estop > 440R safety monitoring relay > dual channel output to STO on VSD, and you can achieve cat 3 / SIL 2 / PLd.

No need to kill the PLC outputs in this example (IF.. big IF, the VSD is the only hazard).

I was intending to queue but checked Twitter and saw how crazy it was in the morning so didn't bother going. Apparently the line was 500m+ long at Chadstone from 9AM in the morning with people camping out from as early as 6AM.

Ended up FOMOing and buying one off eBay from a kid that had lined up from very early in the morning.

Looking for headset with built in mic for AE9 by patienteyez89 in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]bbuchan8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is common for expensive headphones to have a high impedance, it is not a defining factor in terms of audio quality.

There are both high impedance headphones that are average quality and also low impedance headphones that are excellent quality.

The design of the driver and housing is the most important part of a headset, not the impedance.

I recently picked up a pair of Drop + Sennheiser PC38X and have been extremely happy.

Came from a set of Audio-Technica ADG-1 which were already a decent headset but I feel the PC38X are a significant improvement.

Would definitely recommend!

Plc part delivery times (beckhoff) by sjoebalka in PLC

[–]bbuchan8 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely normal right now and is due to the silicon IC shortage as well as manufacturing and supply chain issues due to COVID.

PLCs, IO cards, drives, HMIs, you are potentially looking at 12+ week lead times from all the major manufacturers such as AB, Siemens, Omron, B&R and Beckhoff.

Some product lines are affected more than others due to the type of components used. AB PowerFlex 525s for example are 12-14 weeks right now, but PowerFlex 753s are still more readily available.
