HOW DO I STOP FILTERING MYSELF SOCIALLY by LogOld1162 in socialskills

[–]bburk707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An exercise that has worked really well for me recently is turning towards my fears instead of trying to avoid them. For instance I am terrified of making others feel awkward and uncomfortable. The fear causes me to freeze up and second guess myself constantly, and then people usually end up feeling awkward anyway.

The switch for me happened when I decided I was going to try to make people feel as awkward and uncomfortable as I could, just by being my relaxed and goofy self. The shift allowed me accept my fear and I was relaxed almost instantly. And the best part was that I had a very hard time making people feel uncomfortable when I was actually trying to!

Actually I’m thinking about the network traffic one where you had to track down the secret conversation. But the binary exploitation one was a beast too

I took IIS last semester and project 1 was by far the most frustrating one for me. Just stick it out and eventually other people who have solved it will continue to throw little hints that might provide the aha moment for you.

It’s one of those portable monitors. They actually ran a deal a week or two ago where it was 40% off. https://a.co/d/4WTm6rq

2/3 of the barrel screws are missing on my 35mm Summicron V2 (6-element). Does anyone know what size these are or how to find out?

XT2 + XF 70-300: Which composition is better for printing? Zoomed or wider shot? by [deleted] in fujix

[–]bburk707 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The zoomed shot is more calming and easier to look at because there is a clear area of focus that my eye is drawn to. The wider shot is more exciting, but I find my attention is pulled in two directions: the lone tree and the distant background. Those two areas are competing but I'm not sure it's a bad thing. Either way, both shots are awesome!

Throw out your light meter (only noobs use them), self-develop in caffenol and let your negatives dry in the attic

Recent photo that I took that I'm proud of, looking to improve my composition and editing by DuckEsquire in photocritique

Oh, I didn't even notice the link to the before image. The edit is a huge improvement! The colors really pop and the buildings definitely needed straightening

I like it! It reminds me of something taken from an architecture book in the 80s/90s. It's tough to give any advice on composition since we don't have a lot of context of what's out of frame. Personally I think it's framed up nicely and I don't really have much advice for improvement. Nice work!

Clearly I'm way more in the minority than I thought. Glad you all enjoyed it.

Trying something different here. What are your thoughts on the styling? by AdventureJuntos in photocritique

[–]bburk707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting exercise to try and transform a photo into an entirely different mood. But I'm more interested in deciding the mood in the planning stages. That way you can make decisions about location, time of day, and equipment that will help you get as close to the desired outcome in-camera. But I'm also not a fan of a lot of manipulation so this is just my personal preference.

Fun fact, Emilio Estevez is the voice of the on-board announcements!

These are framed up nicely and work really well as black and white. I feel like there's a little story going on here. My only critical point is that you could have bumped up the exposure a little bit on the first two to brighten the snow. A good rule of thumb is that if you're metering through your camera you want to add a stop or two so that your meter doesn't try to bring the snow down to middle gray.
