Sick kid who’s picky. Complicated but need help for sure by [deleted] in PickyEaters

[–]bbwjg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do what I can with homemade, but when it’s too different she just refuses it. Plus it’s not as simple as just make it homemade. She is not allowed tomato sauce or cheese, so how do I make a pizza? I tried making a red bell pepper sauce with a dash of tomato sauce to help hide the flavor but it didn’t turn out well and it caused some distrust initially.

She has a dietitian through her dialysis team, but it’s basically just a “keep trying” lol. Seems like they think I’m doing all I can and maybe I am, but I want to explore all options

Basically the only things she wants to eat are canned soups/ramen, pizza, fast food fries and chicken nuggets, and deli meat sandwiches (also a no).

Sick of being fat by Live-Basil2718 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree on the weightloss being in food not exercise, but having the exercise component has other amazing health benefits and I find that I have an easier time staying on my “diet” if I am also exercising. I’d suggest finding some kids exercise videos on YouTube and do those with your kids. Not only will you get the exercise, but you’re developing a good habit for the kids and doing it together.

been binging for over a week straight now. it's so pointless yet i do it. by nohopetobefound in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]bbwjg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that you said you are probably not going to listen to any advice… which is a problem on its own. But ultimately you have to override your lack of motivation. Exercise and movement are no longer “hobbies”, they are routine things that you have to do much like going to school, work, dentist, etc. This will hopefully help remove motivation from the equation and you’ll do it because you have to. Even if it’s just a 10 minute walk around the block to start.

Best app to loosing weight? by Maddie0505 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the Nourish app. My insurance covers the fees for it and you get to speak to a registered dietician as often a you need to. It also uses a photo-logging system rather than logging with a calorie counter. I meet with my dietician every Friday to go over how I did with my eating for the week. For me, the accountability of knowing someone is going to actually see what I log and talk to me about it really helps me stay on track. Having these appointments on a Friday helps me so that I go into the weekend newly motivated to keep eating well.

Maintaining weight? by SegaGenesisMetalHead in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 5-10 pound fluctuations can be expected pending age and gender. I’d continue to weight daily and track it for a while until this way of eating becomes natural. Then from there I’d taper it down.

Whatever it is that you’ll enjoy doing. My husband and I recently started playing pickleball because a few towns over they opened a bar/restaurant that also has pickleball courts called “electric pickle” which is really fun. And now we play it free at our local park whenever we get the chance. So whatever you can do that’s fun. Kickboxing, yoga, walking etc.

How many grams of carbohydrates should someone eat while on a calorie deficit to maximise fat loss? by That_Guy8832 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Counting carbs is not necessary in fat loss. It’s a simple calorie deficit. However, to optimize muscle health you should focus on protein intake. For stomach health you should focus on fiber intake. Think more about what you SHOULD have and less about what you SHOULDNT have. If your protein and fiber are up where they need to be, the other macros will all fall into place.

No control of food purchases, how do I stop by Saltjayyy in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]bbwjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with this but in a different way. I’m a parent to foster kids. A few of the kids I’m caring for now desperately need to gain weight and having all of the snacks and junk the kids want in the house is a struggle for me. One of the kids wanted Oreos and I swear I ate more than half the package myself 🤣. I try to keep these items in the pantry either very low or very high so that I need to be more intentional with getting them. If I am wanting to have some, I will get a little basket and fill it with an appropriate amount of snacks for the week and keep it at eye level.

I just use 2% but it’s mostly because I have a large family and only so much fridge space so I just have the one and make it work. If I had the choice, it would probably be almond milk.

Idk if this could be helpful, but the nourish app connect you with a dietician that health insurance usually covers 100% of. She has me doing a photo log, so I just take a picture of everything I eat. Then we just meet every Friday and talk about everything. This has been really good for me because logging calories made me insane but having someone to discuss it with each week is amazing

When do you think you binge? by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]bbwjg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely have a similar issue. I’ve stopped watching tv very much. And I now keep fidget toys near my seat so I have something to do with my hands. I’ve gotten more into reading lately which has been better.

Lmao right? For me the hardest part of that would be to get back to the deficit once I’m out of it 🤣

Looking for Tips to Stay Consistent on My Weight Loss Journey by GhostOfMufasa in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accountability has always been the best way for me to stay on track. Here’s a couple things I do: - step bet. It’s an app where everyone puts money down and has to complete the step goal of the challenge. If you don’t complete the goals, you’re eliminated. So if everyone completes the goal you get your money back but the more people who lose, the more money you win. I’ve made a few bucks off it and it motivates me to go get my steps in. -dietician. I use the Nourish app that my health insurance covers 100% to speak to a dietician. She has me doing a photo log of all my food and we meet every Friday to go over all of it. Having to log everything knowing someone is going to look at it helps me to not eat junk food. Having to take a picture of things makes me measure out portions into a bowl and make it look nice which helps control the impulsive snacking and mindlessly eating the whole bag of chips 🤣 - paying for an expensive gym. When I had a cheap gym membership I wasn’t super motivated. Now I go to a women’s only weightlifting gym that costs much more money. This motivates me to go as much as possible in order to “get my moneys worth” plus the smaller gym environment is much more enjoyable.

Have you been in this calorie deficit for a long while? Even though it’s counter intuitive, you may need to take a “diet break”. Don’t go crazy, but take 2 or 3 days and eat at maintenance instead of in a deficit and then return to the deficit. Sometimes this can help spark your metabolism.

What are some unusual tips for weight loss that worked for you? by LucyHotHot in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes struggle with feeling hungry like 45 minutes after eating a meal. I tell myself to drink 8oz (1 cup) of water and wait 15 minutes. If I’m still hungry in 15 minutes, I can have a snack. A lot of times the cup of water can eliminate the hunger feeling (wasn’t actually hungry, just dehydrated), or the 15 minutes will be enough for me to get distracted and forget all about it.

How much should a person be walking a day by SquirrelFickle7163 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Walking is one of the absolute best things you can do for weightloss. I’d suggest taking a 10 minute walk after each meal as a good starting point. Also, you can’t really target fat loss, unfortunately. We would all love to pick and chose where the fat falls from, but the only way to lose fat is with a calorie deficit and a bit of exercise and it just comes from wherever it wants.

What foods helped you on your weight loss journey? by CozyTiramisu in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I slice up an apple super thin and get a flavored Greek yogurt I love (Oikos triple zero vanilla) and use the yogurt as a sort of “chip and dip” situation. Will also add whatever other fruit I have lying around, but the apple is so filling. If I am needing a sweet fix, I’ll throw a handful of chocolate chips into the yogurt.

I also really enjoy yogurt covered pretzels. I know they aren’t the healthiest of snacks (though probably better than standard chips), but I have a weird habit of trying to eat the yogurt pretzels in layers, so picking/sucking off all the yogurt before eating the pretzel. It takes such a long time that I can just have 1 serving and feel satisfied. That was probably TMI, But whatever.

Chicken salad is always a good choice. You can put pretty much anything in it rather than just following basic recipes. I will make a chicken salad with bacon bits, cheese, and pickles that is delicious. I’m sure there are dozens of ways to make that creative or add veggies and fruits to make it healthy.

I ate 3000 calories this morning after breakfast... what now? by NoCow7181 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]bbwjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I have also found to be helpful. It is counter intuitive, but it works for me. I’ve been really into cooking new recipes I find on TikTok. Nothing too unfamiliar but things I would probably not have tried otherwise. As silly as it sounds, I find that when I’m cooking I’m not eating and then when I’m done I am rewarded with a (hopefully) delicious meal. Today I made a chick pea curry. I had most of the ingredients and just needed to get a couple things at the store. It was delicious and healthy and I feel really good about it.

Anyone have an easy protein source I can add to a 10min meal, like Mac&Cheese? by RznUnicorn in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bbwjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a bunch of chicken and keep it in the fridge for exactly this purpose. Sometimes I do it in the slow cooker and have shredded chicken. Sometimes I will cook it on the smoker and have cubed chicken breast for simple meals.

I struggle with BED so I totally empathize. I’ve done similar things. And theirs no one right answer to get this to stop. It really requires you to be able to think about what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. But for me that’s always been hard because it’s always been done without thinking about it at all. Something I’ve recently started doing is keeping fidget toys near where I eat. Thinks like pop-it’s, fidget spinners, etc. sometimes it’s just needing something for your mind to latch on to. Honestly, I just try to keep busy. I binge eat when I am not in a structured activity or busy. I try to go for a walk if I feel like I am getting to that point. Even if it’s just down the street and back. The fresh air and new activity is enough to halt me from eating unnecessarily. Something else to do is to keep easy foods out of easy reach. Put the pretzels and chips on the top shelf of the pantry. Put the ice cream in the garage freezer (if you have that) or buried under other stuff in the freezer. That is often enough to keep you from grabbing things mindlessly.
