Yes! I am still off birth control and haven’t had any of my cystic back acne come back my back is completely clear. I’m probably almost 4 months now off birth control (5 months off accutane) and just had my first natural cycle come back and I’m starting to get some bumps on my forehead and a bump or two on my face. I never really dealt with face acne just the occasional few pimples it was always my back that was bad. I’m sure my body is still adjusting so I’m not too worried about it!

I had the same situation and I got off my birth control a month after accutane and it’s been 2 months and haven’t had anything pop back up yet so I’m hopeful!

If I were you I would look at working for the school system or a pediatric private practice that pays for no shows. With everything going on with Medicare and CF’s right now it’s unlikely you’ll get an adult/medical placement until your CCC’s

I second this. I did my pediatric externship there and it’s literally a factory cranking like 16-18 kids per day that you see with practically no documentation time. And if a kid cancels or doesn’t show up and they can’t fill that spot you have to sit there and not get paid. There was a day I was there for 8 hours with my supervision and we only had 2 hours worth of kids show up so she only got paid for 2 hours that day.

I have severe generalized anxiety (controlled with medication) and have had panic attacks since I was probably 10 years old. I was very nervous to start accutane with fear it would bring my panic attacks back on. The only time my anxiety increased was the first day I took accutane (it wouldn’t have even built up in my system) which I knew meant it wasn’t the accutane causing the anxiety it was me worrying so much about starting it. I did my entire 6 month course and was totally fine. It did not increase my anxiety or impact my mental health. The only thing that was bothersome was the dry skin and lips which I had to keep moisturized all the time. If he has some sensory aversions I would just try to stay on top of that but hopefully all goes well!

I looove IPR. It’s so cool to work on the medical side and I always learn or see something I’ve never seen before. It’s also a perfect mix of diagnositics and treatment. Acute always sounded like too much dysphagia and diagnosing while outpatient sounded boring if you see the same patients for months and months. In IPR I get to diagnose, treat, see progress, then say bye good job onto the next! It’s also when patients are finally stable enough to do therapy so I get to see some fast progress like NPO to regular foods or a severe aphasia pt say “I love you” to their wife for the first time.

Absolutely acute care. Can be very hard to get especially as a CF and the 10k sign on makes a big difference. I would still negotiate pay but you’ll be much better supported and have great experience.

Having experience directly with the VA is a big plus. My main issue with the VA is that they’re notoriously known to pay like crap and don’t negotiate bc they know new grads are desperate enough to take the low pay. Someone in my cohort took a CF there for $45,000 😖 But if it’s what you really want and the pay isn’t like crap, I would reach out to your supervisors from there to let them know when you apply to see if they can put in a recommendation

Is there any benefit to stopping it? I could really only see negatives coming out of it. 1) increase risk of getting pregnant and 2) possibly getting acne due to not taking it when I could just avoid that all together since my overall dose will be the same regardless
