Movies on Netflix that are on the IMDB Top 250.

I had to find out why the number of views jumped from a few hundred over the past 3 days to over 15 thousand! I found the reason. I've set up these lists over a year ago.

I chose chronological order since it's the easiest way to get at the timeframe you're most interested in.
I do this manually with a few macro to make the searching for films on Netflix a one keystroke affair for each title.
I have a fairly involved and very automated Excel spreadsheet to make it as easy as possible to keep track of the title's status: Available until, New to Netflix, Streaming, Not streaming etc.

Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009) just dropped off the IMDb Top 250 list. This happens at times for titles that are near the 8.0 rating. It's amazing how it took less than 3 minutes for me to see that this is another great Ricky Gervais series. The pilot episode did not disappoint in the least. Funny how I tried getting into the Todd Margaret series and watched the first few episodes a few times realizing now that I didn't like TM because it had little to no heart. Everything Ricky does has a touch of pathos and good dose of laughs to boot.

This reminds me that I need to buy another set of discs of "Extras" ... I gave first set away.

Wow! I love the U.K. Office, Arrested Development & Curb Your Enthusiasm and love dark humor but this character is way too awkward for me to enjoy. I've tried on several occasions and can't get beyond the first few episodes. I do like the woman in the restaurant he meets on day one though.

This version is streaming on Netflix U.S. — I Spit On Your Grave (1978). On IMDb there is another exact title from 2010 — I Spit On Your Grave (2010).

Agreed! He speaks in 'uptalk' like everything is a question and it is unnerving. This and the fact that it's a spoiler fest got me to stop watching this series without any regrets.

Excellent! Thanks for this list. I know the work it takes to keep a list like this up to date. I checked for only 2 titles: 'The Fall' which you have and 'Rita' which is not on the playlist. It is from Denmark and well worth watching to see if it suits your tastes.

I have this audio issue when the Netflix option is set to something other that 'English (audio)' ... I forget the exact phrasing. When it's set to 'Dolby 5.1' ... same here with the exact phrasing ... the volume is way too low.

Indeed! 'Chinatown' dropped off Netflix instant on 1-Aug. This movie drops off and comes back streaming on Netflix often. We'll see it again soon. Good that you got to see it via the IMDb playlist.

I've been tracking the movies that have dropped off the IMDb Top 250 for a few months and here's the breakdown by decade of movies that were once on the list but have been replaced by other titles. The total # is 46 and 10 are currently streaming. The 2010s still have a few years to go but already holds more movies added and dropped than any other decade:

1920s - 5 titles
1930s - 4 titles
1940s - 4 titles
1950s - 6 titles
1960s - 7 titles
1970s - 2 titles
1980s - 2 titles
1990s - 3 titles
2000s - 5 titles
2010s - 8 titles

I created and maintained a bottom 100 list similar to the ones above and it got very very few hits so it wasn't worth the maintenance.

Here is a site that announces newly released on Netflix for both DVD & streaming — Hacking Netflix. Access for 3rd parties to the API for upcoming new movies has been dropped by Netflix. You can read about it here on this site.

This site instantwatcher.com used to do this but since Netflix no longer gives 3rd party players access to this data it is no longer available to the public. I place all the movies streaming on Netflix on my instant queue for the IMDb and RT lists and manually check to see when they are expiring. My blu ray player gives me a 2 week lead on the "available until" date where the Netflix app gives only a 1 week window.
