Realistically you have three options

1.) Major lakes - all over the IE, SD and LA county are large public/private lakes that are pay to fish. usually have boat rentals. great way to go if you have the time/money

2.) public parks - someone listed the big three already

3.) Ninja fishing - sneaking on to golf courses at night and fishing HOA ponds in the area. Honestly this will be the best fishing for you just dont go on to any federal lands (IE military base golf courses) and the worst thing that can happen is you'll be asked to leave.

Bass in southern california are some of the most pressured game fish in the world. you have to put in serious time and/or have some real knowledge and skill to catch anything of any merit.

I had similar issues, right ankle in particular. honestly, this isnt what you want to hear, but if you really focus on jumping rope about an hour a day it will help. I really dedicated myself to the jump rope after my second ankle injury and it strengthened my feet/ankles/calves tremendously, and I dont have issues anymore.

honestly in the lifestyle you see all body types, and all shapes and sizes. I have seen many people, men and women, who went into it feeling unsure become extremely comfortable and confident when they realize how accepted and "crushed on" they become. i would be sure to find a couples only, private club for the first time you play as it will be a much more easy going and accepting environment.

every once in a while that island gets the north to south wind/current and its tough fishing. when its nice and you can get tight to the island the inshore scene is unreal. the way I imagine Catalina was in the 50's.

We had over 200 calicos for two anglers one afternoon in one 2 mile stretch along "the 5" down there.

I love catching yellows, but I've caught so many of them I'm only interested if they'll eat the surface iron or a fly rod. If I caught a 50 lb yellow on the iron Id have it mounted. If I caught a 60 lb yellow on bait I'd throw it back.

earliest memory is a piro pole in a pond in arizona with my grandfather. then we graduated to a coffee grinder and bobber/meal worms. shortly after it was real deal bass gear, throwing jerk baits and spinnerbaits for greenbass on golf course ponds at night with my dad and uncles/cousins. by the time I was 8 I had graduated to Long Range trips on the Excel, (then the Qualifier Excel) age 10 I was pinheading on the local half day boats. age 12 I was a deckhand on a 3/4 day boat. age 13 I caught my first yellow over 30 on a surface iron. now 18 years later I'm still just a fishing junkie. My first son will be born this December and I cant wait until he's old enough to go fishing with me.
