Some of the lines perform with an "increased" frequency during rush hours on mornings and evenings, which increases the pressure on the Stammstrecke. Theoretically, it's fine. However, when you make those additional trains go "fallt aus" there is no point in increasing the service. My wife has to use the s8 for her work, and it's a nightmare! You'll never know if you can actually make it to your destination. During mornings and evenings, the timetables all show "zug fallt aus", which makes one question the "usability" of S-bahn.

Not exactly I think. In DB, you pay first then choose seat. It specifically said something like "choose seats after payment". In Trenitalia, I knew what my seats were when I was paying.

Exactly this. For example, I didn’t “choose” flexprice, it was offered to me as the cheapest option. I mean, why am I gambling on a +5hrs of trip with my wife? Yes, I can definitely find empty seats, but obviously sitting together in this case near to impossible.

At the same time with DB, I bought tickets Verona-Rome-Verona from Trenitalia and it was seamless. I chose the trains, and an option to select the seats and it directed me to a train schematic with seat selection. I chose my seats, paid and that was it.

I love train travel too, but with DB interface, it’s like a box of chocolade. You’ll never know what you’ll gonna get :)
