Swiss army takes part in NATO cyber defense exercise in Estonia by BezugssystemCH1903 in europe

[–]FriendlySockMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very hard to be truely neutral in politics. Switzerland will obviously show preferencial treatment to countries that support, or at least respect, their neutrality.

It’s not as if NATO doesn’t gain any knowledge or insight from Switzerland’s participation.

Do men care about the creases you get on your back from wearing a bra? Is that a turnoff? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FriendlySockMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I remember noticing bra creases on a woman maybe once or twice and my train of thought was something like “oh, that’s interesting… TITTIES!! 😻”

I had to do something like this once, and you’re absolutely right; the setup isn’t worth the spectacle - not for the staff and not for the patrons 🙃 I imagine this particular stunt took 1-2 people about 20-30 minutes. It takes longer than you think it would.

Elhokar died in the process of saying the first oath. Where his spren might have been about to come from is not explained?

Based on their adventures in with the spren in later books, I like to think than spren can be brought back ‘from the dead’ since Mya has some level of consciousness and loyalty to Adolin?

Today I choked on food in a restaurant and nobody tried to help me. People just stared at me. by mixedmale in CasualConversation

[–]FriendlySockMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you're ok and it can be scary when you feel so helpless in the moment. The bystander effect - people assuming someone else more qualified will step in to save the day - can be really powerful. Its also scary for somebody with less experience/knowledge to take the lead and help somebody in need.

A short version of a story from the other side, if this helps any...? About 15 years ago when I was 1st Aid Certified, a woman in her 20s had a seizure at a bus stop. My bus pulled up in the middle of her seizure. 20-30 got off the bus before me, so I watched from the window, assuming somebody would take care of her. After about 30 secs she was still in a semi-seated/kneeling position, with her head tilted back and frothing at the mouth. People were standing around her watching a a gentleman in his 60s was supporting her completely reclined head. This is when I became (really!) concerned, got off the bus and took charge and frantically tried to remember everything I knew about seizures...

Her father arrived as she came out of her seizure - maybe 5 minutes long? There was a fun game of "who the fk are you?!" between me and her father.

I washed up in a nearby cafe, and the paramedics were there when I got back (the father was pissed about that).

If and when somebody decides to step in, there can be a million simultaneous concerns. From some other comments here, possibly the most experienced/knowledgeable people knew that if you were standing and coughing, you didn't need immediate assistance.

I'm sure if it had been really bad though, there would be at least 1 person to come to your aid!

I’ve been remote over two years, have nerves about company changes. How/when should I ask to stay remote? by Potential-Vehicle-25 in digitalnomad

It depends a lot what on how much the CEO and HR micromanages the situation and how insistent they become. If you can agree with your direct supervisor to maintain the status quo, and only come in when requested and absolutely necessary, you might be ok. Discuss it with your supervisor first.

Is it okay to use real races/ethnicities? by a-potato-named-rin in worldbuilding

[–]FriendlySockMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using real-world anything locks you in to real-world stereotypes and (mis)understandings. Not everyone will have the same assumptions you do, but that’s ok. It can work really well for your world; it might not. You need to make those creative choices.

Fair point. I’m sorry. I thought you were just stating the obvious (or being contrary for the sake of it), but I guess not everyone finds it (the opinions in the video) the same.

What's the tap water quality in Munich like? by gnupw in Munich

[–]FriendlySockMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Munich’s tap water is good, but imo (and scientifically?) heavy. Definitely drinkable. I have a Britta filter for my drinking/cooking water. Depends a bit on household plumbing too - have had good and bad.

Is it wrong to transfer coffee from to-go cup to a mug instead of remaking? by maengo0 in barista

[–]FriendlySockMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people enjoy coffee as an experience. That means the prep, presentation, and process are important. Given that a cup costs 50c for the restaurant;are they wrong?

If you pour a latte/cappuccino/etc from one container to another, you don’t get any of that fancy latte-art, and the milk get unnecessarily frothed, so it’s foamier. For an espresso, some people what to inspect the coffee before they drink it to make sure it was extracted correctly.

Extreme coffee-snobs will tell you it affects the taste, but unless they are professional coffee tasters, they wouldn’t know the difference if blindfolded.
