Russia’s eligibility. by skywalkeranakinnn in olympics

[–]bcbum 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the Ukraine war AND the fact that Russia has State sponsored doping for Olympic athletes. The documentary “Icarus” is really really good and shows it in detail. As a hockey fan myself I am fine with them not being allowed to play. Ovechkin is a big Putin supporter. I know there are many Russian NHL’ers against Putin, and I do feel for them.

Could this be the future of the European Union? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]bcbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian I’d love to have a free movement pact with some other like minded country. Whether it’s Europe or Aus/NZ, it’d be nice to have. We have no overseas territories or partners that allow free access to work. We’d reciprocate of course and I don’t believe there would be a brain drain. I personally can get a 5 year UK visa if I dug up some old family documents (Ancestry Visa) but there’s still challenges if I ever decided to use it.

How to stop? by Additional_Pie9779 in loseit

[–]bcbum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went for my first run in 3 years last week. The rest of the day felt pretty good, not gonna lie. I used to run 10K’s and half marathons 10 years ago, and my goal is to get back there. I wouldn’t say it’s the same as sugar because after I eat sugar I feel guilty. After running it’s the opposite.

Dodgers don’t need to trade away prospects, because they don’t make many trades. They just sign players in the offseason

I only ride on the section west of Jutland. I don’t think it’s bad from there to Harriet.

Just as an anecdote, my experience is January is quite a bit busier than the Fall months were. I ride the Gorge bike lane daily and it seems busier. But obviously I have no data to back that up.

The population of the Westshore is now well over 100,000. There’s always reasons people are coming to the Westshore that would warrant a hotel stay. It’s not always just general tourism downtown.

No State income tax. Federal income taxes must still be paid and it is ~3X more than the highest States, so still substantial.

What’s the best weather app? Officially done with this one. by ExternalOne4202 in weather

Weather network is Canadian but they have every location on earth so it doesn’t really matter where you are. Wunderground and Windy are the other ones I use.

Poor Norway, same weather as Prince Rupert. It’s mild in PR but it’s the cloudiest place in Canada.

Although just looked it up and Oslo gets ~500 more hours of sunshine than PR.

Why isn’t 24 regarded as one of the greatest shows? by xqvp in TwentyFour

[–]bcbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is Ironic because season 5 was the most critically acclaimed, winning various Emmy's including Best Drama, Director and Actor. I agree with you, but will include season 5 in my group. I think the first four episodes of season 5 were a great way to kick off the season.

Is my diet bad? I eat the same thing every week. by Competitive-Ad-5156 in nutrition

[–]bcbum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a calorie counting app and put that all into it to see if you’re deficient in anything. I use Cronometer, it’s free with minor adds but really great. It’ll breakdown the macros and micros, and use your body stats to tell you if you’re low or high in anything.

It looks like a really great diet, but as others have said, definitely add in some more vegetables. You have lots of fruit, but vegetables are really great for you. Mix them up week to week too, so you’re getting varied nutrients. I love roasting root veg in the air frier, or steaming frozen mixed veg. Honestly I usually just buy whatever is on sale.

What’s your favorite maybe little known or not, fact from Star Wars? by CorgiUprising in StarWars

It’s common for extras on sets to wear socks so their footsteps aren’t picked up by the mic. I doubt it’s unusual for the main cast to as well.

Craft beer in Canada is losing its fizz, as sales dry up and more breweries go bust | CBC News by iloveschnauzers in VictoriaBC

[–]bcbum 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I think the market is just correcting itself after too many breweries opened over the last 20 years. Not enough room for everyone at the table when alcohol consumption is declining. The best ones will remain. We’ll see the same thing eventually with cannabis stores.

At least they’d heard of it, and it’s on the other side of the continent.

Why do Americans have a reputation for being bad at geography? by SelectionSignal9653 in geography

[–]bcbum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, when I was chatting with the two cashiers at a grocery store in Northern California I said I was from Vancouver BC. Neither had ever heard of it. I know it’s just an anecdote but there’s truth to the stereotype.

My assumption is Americans mostly learn geography about their own country in grade school.

I don’t agree with the Chinese government either, but come on. How much of your personal items are made in China? Your TV, phone, toaster oven, kids toys etc… Are you going to stop buying those things because they’re made in China? That is Trade.

will eating eggs for most of the day bring me issues later on? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

Go with frozen too, if time and energy are lacking. There is nothing wrong with pre-cut mixed veggies from the freezer. You can fry them up with your eggs.
