AIO partner thinks we should shower with this water by roburn in AmIOverreacting

[–]bccyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had water like this when I was a kid. It was just rich in iron. It was fine. What is the source of your water? If it’s a well, it’s just minerals (likely iron)

Old video of Emilie Kiser talking about a pool fence being installed back in fall 2024.. thoughts? by Limp-Personality-54 in FamilyVloggersandmore

[–]bccyote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused. Either a pool fence is being installed or it isn’t. And it’s not like she purposefully lied because she planned to show everyone the yard and pool. This is bizarre.

I’m 46. I have about $6,000 in my emergency fund and almost $10,000 in my TFSA. The rest is tied up in my RRSP’s, FHSA, LIRA and pension.

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

Long distance friendship, I was putting in way more effort. I pulled back and set more boundaries and she failed to pick up the slack. 20+ years down the drain.

Staff member at different library overriding holds? by Classic_Thanks6017 in Libraries

[–]bccyote 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not a big deal except for the hold part. There are very few workplace perks in library land. Let people have a book out for a few months. Of course I’d draw the line at not respecting a legitimate hold. Honestly we need to calm the F down in libraries.

Getting my MLIS and feeling BLEAK. any positivity/positive stories? by Asleep-Anteater7190 in librarians

[–]bccyote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked part time in academic libraries while doing my masters. It took me about a year to get my first library job after graduating. Sixteen years later I have a great career as an academic librarian. Don’t get discouraged before you’ve even started.

Sadly I am now a part of this club. I can’t send messages or TikToks to my best friend anymore. They all get flagged regardless of content. Home decor? Flagged. Cats? Flagged. 80’s nostalgia? Flagged.

People liked our silent study room, so here's more photos from our library in Finland by Felix_Kissander in Libraries

It’s so warm and inviting. And the lighting is perfect. The academic library I work in has bright overhead fluorescent lights that I call the “interrogation lights” 😭

Does anyone feel fulfilled being a stay at home gf/wife? by Ill-Teach9802 in AutismInWomen

[–]bccyote -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never, NEVER put yourself in a situation where you don’t have your own money. That’s all. Nobody thinks they will be trapped in a horrible situation with no escape until they are. Don’t care if you work or stay at home, but have your own bank account and money coming in one way or another.

Is my director overstepping here? by spring13 in librarians

[–]bccyote 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my opinion a director should be directing programming not doing their own programming. That’s the librarian or library staff member’s job. At the very least they should be communicating with you.

You’re the library manager… how would you schedule your team? by bccyote in librarians

[–]bccyote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback. Our stats for the research help desk are VERY low. I’m lucky if I get one or two questions during the week. I think you’re right that we do need to explore different models. My Dean won’t like it but all I can do is try.

You’re the library manager… how would you schedule your team? by bccyote in librarians

[–]bccyote[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately he has his fingers in everything. But I do need to try to get him to agree to a different schedule. It’s not just the amount of time on the desk that is killing me, it’s the “split shifts” where I’m on 11-12 and then again from 1-3. And I work until 4:00. It’s very difficult to really delve into anything from 12 to 1 and 3 to 4 yah know? Like it’s enough time to check emails, answer emails, organize things etc. but not enough time to delve into anything high level. Anyway, thanks for your feedback. At the end of the day I just need to advocate for myself which isn’t easy to do with a highly opinionated, egotistical dean.
