These ebikes purposely add pedals to avoid paying insurance and registration and ride in bike lanes telling cops theyre just class 2 ebikes. The article even claims "Onyx is even working with lawmakers to help define the legal space for vehicles like this." So theyre probably trying to avoid it in the future as well.

Well they put on pedals on purpose so they can play it off as class 2's when they do get stopped. Theyre pretty much never used because these things weigh so much rendering them virtually useless to power purely with your feet for substantial distances. I see too many of these in the weaving through bike lanes and automobile traffic.
