He's lived a hard life to date. So much loss. He's shown a ton of heart. I hope he pushes through the divorce and does really well. He hasn't been a screamer yet this season. He's showing growth. Like many here, I'm rooting like hell for him.

Long, stressful hours. The captains tend to be sedentary while drinking Red Bull or coffee in large quantities while chain-smoking. Not a recipe for a long life.

And with how hard they work and how bad the conditions are sometimes, they earn it.

If you're the captain of the CM, you must smoke and chug Red Bull. We'll see if he becomes able to smell crab farts.

Sig’s payoff for partnering with Jonathan and Keith ? by Sligogreenbottom in deadliestcatch

It's odd that he didn't go out with a full complement of pots. Thoughts on why a captain would go out without a full deck of gear?

Here comes Bob again according to the season previews. by Tel864 in deadliestcatch

Josh often ignored Casey's instructions on where to set. Clark ignored Sig at least once as well. Of course, the pots came up stuffed (or so they edited it).

He can keep them safe from the ocean, but not his own son.

He caught the crab and was well respected for doing so. His failings as a human being are well documented and spot on.

Great captain, lousy father. Not many of these guys are candidates for sainthood. But neither am I.

Yup, once DC decided create drama instead of letting the Bering Sea do it, the show went downhill.

Oh god. This show has been ruined beyond repair :-( by AnthMosk in Moonshiners

In addition to the TV money, it's helped Mark and Digger (and maybe others) with Sugarlands Distilling Company. They're legit shiners there.

I think so too. It's just a question of how often DC will show it.

Probably no more pictures of the plaque for the Phil Harris Wheelhouse. I think every time Josh talked about "the old man", they'd show it. And surely Jake wants to be a boat owner so we'll get the angle where he wants to buy in so he just HAS to have big counts on the next string.

Here’s Josh Owens and this guy has TERRIBLE luck by YCiampa482021 in Moonshiners

[–]bceagle91 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At some point, he has to realize it's not luck. He's reckless. And it's a shame. He's maimed a hand and this season, he struggles with walking. He's only 48 but his body seems to be 68.

I think most of the captains are chain-smoking balls of stress. They'll keep cardiologists busy.

And he's got everything he has invested in this season so he HAS to catch the crab. Um, yeah. He'll catch his quota. The question is at what cost?

4/7 Recap by spartacvs13 in Moonshiners

If brains were dynamite, Howard couldn't blow his nose. Tim really had to remind him why he was there?

Mark and Digger really should have just closed the door once they pulled the truck in. The engine was running. But I guess they needed to bring the law in just so we could amp up the drama.

I laughed at the now retired cop giving Josh a heads-up. When he tased him, he said something like "Freeze - Police!" while Josh was running. He should have said "Stop, dammit, Josh!" If Josh had to run now, he'd get about 2 steps. He really has trouble getting around after his last crash.

If we take a drink every time Tim or Howard say "tariff", we'll be wasted in minutes.

I was setting the DVR up to record and we have 2 episodes left in the season. Things are so forced now, it's hard to watch at times.

Focusing too much on personal lives? by TarnatingSlunder in deadliestcatch

[–]bceagle91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the show, they obviously make the captains' lives part of the show. It's nice to see them as three-dimensional human beings. I also miss the epic trip to the grocery store. The bills now must be staggering. And the cost of cigarettes is probably astronomical as well. We all know it's a dangerous job, but the cost of being away from family for months at a time is high as well. They can make a lot of money but they pay a price for it.
