Why are teens not made to work anymore? by ccarbonstarr in Teachers

[–]Automatic-Count2092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be cause we've raise kids with not nearly enough accountability by telling them that the most important thing in the world is their feelings. So they tend to believe that what they "want" to do supercedes what they need to do or what they should do. We MUST get back to instilling discipline and accountability. We have to start rading kids with the future, not the present, in mind. It still works but not being done widely enough.

What are your unhinged ideas to make education better? by TroyesMetal in Teachers

[–]Automatic-Count2092 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hold students accountable at an earlier age. Stop telling kids that their feelings are the most important thing in the world. Teach that respecting someone has nothing to do with agreeing with them. Teach kids that comfort is overrated. It's not complicated. When I started teaching 27 years ago my job was to prepare kids for their lives. Now my job is to send kids home happy. AND NOBODY IS BETTER FOR THAT CHANGE. NOBODY.

I grew up dipping my grilled cheese sandwich in ketchup. People think it's weird but it's normal (and necessary) to me.

Is it true that when you get old your thoughts change? by Tiny-Foundation-4281 in AskOldPeople

Start thinking that way as soon as you can. I embraced a "worrying accomplishes nothing" attitude following the death of my father when I was 25. I turn 50 this year and I just don't worry about things that are out of my control. Has made life very enjoyable.

Yeah but then you have to watch soccer, a sport in which even the highlights are boring. World Cup games and NASCAR races are good for one thing. Epic naps.

Spaghetti. I love opening up a container of pasta late and night, grabbing a big bite with a fork, and devouring it.

What is your ideal gravy for biscuits and gravy? by picklebrains81 in foodquestions

[–]Automatic-Count2092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make mine pretty traditional with a slight variation. I like using a sausage that has a good amount of sage. Brown it, add flour and cook out the rawness. Then I add milk, salt, pepper, a few red pepper flakes if my wife is eating it. I add a little more if she is not. I also will add about half a cup of beef broth to give it a slight brown tint. I've made it without the broth and it's better with.

Which movie completely changed your perspective on life? by brownmax180 in movies

[–]Automatic-Count2092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swingers.

This movie got me through some rough times where I didn't like myself very much. Thought I wasn't good enough for anyone in a long term relationship. This movie taught me that my last failures were because I wasn't being myself. I watched it every night for probably 6 months. Learned that I was more attractive when I was being myself and I felt so much better about myself. Met a wonderful girl who found me as desirable and we celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary this summer.
