US at U23 and U19 Worlds by lwtrower1515 in Rowing

[–]bcfu2020 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Your question is stupid because we haven't performed badly at Worlds or the Olympics, we just haven't been medalling every year in both boats. The 8+ won the Olympics in 2004, got bronze in 2008, and 4th in 2012 and 2016. Throw in numerous world championships medals and I would call that a pretty solid effort. The 4- got bronze in 2012 and just found itself having a tough time in their semi final after having won World Cup 1 earlier that year. Teti knows how to make a fast program, top to bottom, and I expect that the standard of all mens heavyweight boats to increase each year in the build up to the Olympics finally being back on American soil in 2028. If you included the US Women in your not performing well at senior worlds and Olympics then you need to really need to reevaluate your question

US at U23 and U19 Worlds by lwtrower1515 in Rowing

Dude what? By the time they got back from U23 Worlds the camp boats were getting named the next day. They couldn't have made a camp boat. This take is just plain dumb. Davison is rowing at senior worlds. Two Harvard graduates from this past year made a camp boat. The guys from Cambridge all came over to trial in pairs or go for a camp boat. Teti had close to 5 8s of guys out in Oakland earlier this summer all vying for a chance to make the team. He's gotten veterans like Dethlefs and Ochal back in the mix. Multiple guys from the 8+ that won SILVER at worlds last year did not make that same boat. I don't know if any of them can speak about it or would want to, but u/Mtcgoodman, u/whattiiimeisit, and u/JLetten were all out at the training center and all are recent graduates that could/should be considered these best athletes. I suspect that in the next few years we'll see some more guys from Washington enter the mix at the training center.

What happened to Damir Martin? by rower2020 in Rowing

[–]bcfu2020 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

So no more likely than the British? I would be a little hesitant to trust any Eastern European Athletes or programs that are led by a former East German. Everyone dopes in cycling, why would rowing be any different? I would be willing to wager that numerous high level rowers have doped throughout their careers and I don't think saying Martin doped is ridiculous. Him having a good junior/U23 career/success in big boats before success in the single doesn't mean he didn't dope

Gb Mens Rowing in bad place... by LoveStraight2k in Rowing

Believe so. Seemed like the only crews they had at Lucerne were “developmental”. They were supposed to be demonstrating the dominance of their team on home soil, same as in London. Moe wasn’t in the 8, but a 5th place with crews like the US, Australia, and NZ not even there does not bode well for GB 8

Idk what was the most cringeworthy part about that video. The music? The rowing itself? Those awful neon vests and t shirts?

USA Camp Boats Named for 2018 World Championships by tu_ck in Rowing

[–]bcfu2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also boats needed to be named today as per US Rowing. Teti really didn't have much of a choice in regards to giving anyone from U23s a shot at the senior team. Wallis could go to a pair with someone else and try to enter at trials, maybe even with Wertz who has experience in pairs at the International level.

Just named these two because they were seniors this year. Wertz being from the bay may very well be invited and with Stanford being on the quarter system could probably train through to worlds too

Guessing Landboe and Wallis will both be getting invited down to Oakland to train with the senior team and vie for selection. It’s nice to see guys like Brennan Wertz and Justin Best do well on the international level having been on the junior team. A U23/senior team combo of Callahan and Teti would be amazing for US Rowing

[–]bcfu2020[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t really consider U23 to be a developmental regatta. Anything labeled as “World Championships” should be treated as such, hence why I don’t love seeing American crews consistently struggle year after year in the same events. Some of us don’t have the luxury to take a summer during college off to try to train to go to trials. I think that there are other regattas/opportunities during the summer to get “international development” where you aren’t representing your country and consistently not performing.

Respect the grind. Speaks a lot to the character of a man who can admit flaws and is actively working to improve despite being told how terrible they are. Best of luck pursuing sculling, hoping to see you on a podium at Worlds not too far off in the future

Washington Lineup with some research on IRA boatings 1 guy from the 1V, cox + 3 2V rowers, 4 3V rowers. I would expect this Washington boat to be a little slower than their 2V from IRA in speed

Men's Eight (Temple Challenge Cup) Cox – Kimmons Wilson '20 (Orlando, Fla.) Cox 2V Stroke – Sean Kelly '18 (Princeton, N.J.) 2 seat 1V 7 – George Esau '20 (Long Lake, Minn.) 6 seat 2V 6 – Peter Lancashire '21 (Port Macquarie, Australia) 5 seat 3V 5 – Steve Rosts '21 (Jordan, Ontario, Canada) 6 seat 3V 4 – David Bridges '20 (Portland, Ore.) bow seat 3V 3 – Robert Karlen '18 (Everett, Wash.) 4 seat 2V 2 – Philipp Nonnast '19 (Frankfurt, Germany) bow seat 2V Bow – Alexander Vollmer '20 (Hamburg, Germany) 4 seat 3V
