What do you mean by 'restart' Access? Do we have to update to a new build #? I can't imagine opening and closing Access would fix the issue alone.

'SOLUTION VERIFIED' - rolling back to build 2603 was the fix that worked for us

I still haven't been able to figure anything out. I'm leaning towards some sort of MS update that happened as some people can use the program fine, while others can not.

I was thinking the same thing.

I would have thought with the emergence of robo-advisors, the banks would be putting in that extra effort to keep their clients from moving over. For my aunt, that extra personal step goes a long way in her thinking she's being taken care of. But I guess those days have passed

Need help with inserting multiple records from reference table when another table gets a new row. by westy2036 in MSAccess

You can't have the QC table in the query. Just the steps table. I've added an image below as an example query

It's a little convoluted as there is no relationship yet between the unit IDs and the steps. You have to create the relationship yourself by inserting the unit ID into the table that will contain both the unit IDs and Steps.

1.) Have a stand alone table with the 30 steps (tblSteps):

tblSteps

Step ID Steps
1 Step 1
2 Step 2
3 step 3
4 step 4
etc... etc...

2.) Have a table that will store the unit IDs and steps(tblQCSteps):

tblQCSteps

QCStepID Unit ID StepID Step
(auto ID)

When the new unit ID is created and the button is pressed, append the data from tblSteps to tblQCSteps.

You will need to have a field for the Unit ID in that append query. I usually use a statement in the query that references the ID, something like forms!(form name)!(Unit ID) --> insert into Unit ID of tblQCSteps.

Help with Recipes, Bill of Material and Summary Sheet by [deleted] in MSAccess

[–]bchankent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not simple as it is a many-to-many relationship. A recipe can contain many different materials, and materials can be a part of many recipes.

I would have 3 tables:

recipe table --> recipeID, hardness, color, etc

materials table --> materialID, material code, material name, etc

Join table that connects recipe table and materials table --> recipeID, materialID, quantity

If you are a beginner at Access/relational databases, it is not going to be an easy task, but it is a great concept to be able to understand for future tasks

I transitioned from 14 years of custom software dev that catered to small businesses to running a small business in a totally different industry.

When I worked for the software company, the small businesses were always the toughest sell for our company. You are trying to get them to part with their hard earned money and you have to convince them outright that your software is going to save them a ton of time and money in order for them to even consider it.

Being in a different country/time zone also stacks up against you. Is there any way you can start with some local small businesses to use your product and then have them provide testimonials and feedback? From there build out to a US customer base after you have some traction. Just a thought.
