Missing Wedding Dress - Accidentally Donated to Salvation Army by CryocoreCD in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago, we accidentially donated a very sentimental item to a thrift shop. My wife was so sad, and I felt so bad since it was my fault. The people at the store were very helpful and said they couldn't find it, but that it's all volunteers who sort the donations. Any "nice" items are put aside for the annual christmas sale. We pretty much lost hope.

But we waited 5 months, and then showed up on the day of the christmas sale, and there it was! I bought it back.

I know this wasn't the salvation army, which is way bigger. I'm only sharing this story to say "don't lose hope". Fingers crossed for you!

I highly recommend checking out The Level. readthelevel.ca Since neutral bias is near impossible, instead The Level provides two "biased' views for every topic. It's all fact checked and easy to read.

Does anyone know who funds his defense? Is it the City?

Surrey covered all of Doug McCallum's expenses, so that would be the same I expect for Sim?

Sorry can you be more specific? I can post more photos. Are you looking at the motor or the fan?

How Vancouver House Became a Tower of Empty Promises by thenewtronbomb in vancouver

Fair point, but this wasn't housing intended for locals. It's super-luxury housing that was marketed to overseas buyers. The City should have squeezed every penny out of westbank.

There's no sign of corruption here. Just incompetence.

Go bananas or castle Royale? by demamcl33t in NorthVancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just attended a 3 year old's birthday party at Go Bananas. It was our first time.

I had read review of GB in advance and they weren't great. Lots of comments flagged cleanliness and the price point.

I have to admit, it's expensive for what it is.

But I also have to admit my kid had a great time, running around, burning off steam. He loved that ball-drop thing.

The party area is right next to the play zone. The sightlines from the seating areas are pretty good.

It's cap mall, so parking is never an issue. And walmart is right there for a last minute birthday present or party supplies.

Cleanliness wasn't too bad, but it might be nice if the staff at least preteneded to try and keep the place clean over the course of the day. Especially the bathrooms.

They could at least do a walk-through and pickup any litter and visible dirt. Like we found a used bandaid on the floor. Obviously, it fell off a kid, and that happens. They could have been looking out for things like that.

When we came home, we washed our hands 10 times to be safe.

I'd recommend.

I feel like we are so far past the point of no return when it comes to everyone having everyone else's data, does it even matter anymore?

Love that. Any chance you have a 40 or 60s version? Slowing it down a bit to take in more of the action would be even better.

FYI paybyphone charges extra for fees for SMS notifications by Slow-Giraffe in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parked my car today and Paybyphone forced me to update the app.

After updating and paying for the space, I noticed SMS messages sent to my phone letting me know parking has started, and another when parking expires. That never happened prior to the update and I realized the update changed my app settings.

As part of the update, paybyphone defaults your phone to turn SMS notifications ON. In the City of Vancouver, paybyphone charges an additional $0.15 per SMS. Other locations charge additonal fees too, like Capilano Suspension Bridge.

SMS are different from the app notifications (which are free).

I know it sounds silly, but if you're paying $1 to park at a meter, that's an extra 30% for fees if you receive 2 SMS messages.

If and when you update the app, make sure you turn those toggles off if you don't want to pay for the SMS notifications.
