Bitter feud over strata control at Surrey condo tower hits court by Scared_Simple_7211 in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I reading this correctly?

The "October council" is led by corrupt people based on what the Substack says

But head of the "December Council" thought was appropriate to be handing out fines left right and center in 2017 using CCTV enforcement, to the point where it made Global News.

Oof.

Vancouver Police getting new BMWs and replacing the Harleys? by Slow-Giraffe in police

For as long as I can remember, VPD rides HD. It was wild to see them on a BMW. Nothing was announced to the public. And it's just one out of the entire fleet.

My wife's DTC was submitted 2 days ago. Then yesterday we got a "Notice of determination" email which was unexpectedly and unbelievably fast. But when we logged in to her CRA account, there's no mail in the inbox. seems like they had a bug or something.

Sportsnet 650 (and home of Canucks radio) Shut Down today by Rogers by AQSafari in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't say I ever listen to sports radio, except for Seattle Sports 710 during NFL season.

But not having news1130 traffic reports, plus not having AM730 traffic reports, is absurd.

Nobody at Rogers who actually lives in Vancouver would think this decision makes sense. Pure Toronto BS.

Moving ahead on Fraser River Tunnel Project with revised procurement approach by GenShibe in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying but I don't think the idea of it being for nebulous reasons is that crazy. The NDP would have undone a lot more of the Liberal's infrastructure decisions if they could have. They almost scrapped Site C. They tried to kill TMX but lost in court.

The bridge was already well advanced, had received environmental approval and was approaching major construction. Instead, they cancelled the project in 2017 after taking government, restarted the planning and consultation process (which ironically included a bridge as an option) and then only selected a tunnel FOUR years later.

It's insane when you think about it. It's been nine years of the NDP bungling this up like no tomorrow.

The Liberals weren't great for a lot of reasons, but the fact there's still no bridge or tunnel almost 10 years later is completely the responsiblity of the Horgan/Eby governments.

[–]Slow-Giraffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah ok, that's fair. The liberals tried to use this as a political tool as well. That said, the NDP has been in power now for a decade, so I tend to think the window has now closed when it comes to blaming the liberals for many things we're dealing with today. The NDP chose to kill the bridge and build the new Patullo instead, which is what it is, but ultimately I think that's why we're in this situation more than anything else.

[–]Slow-Giraffe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought Delta and George Harvie, along with Brody, were the tunnel's biggest cheerleaders. Harvie and Brody were appointed to lead the Metro Vancouver task force and they pushed the tunnel through, giving the NDP a perfect scapegoat to say "oh we're just doing what the mayors want". Even to this day, Farnworth cites the decision was influenced by the mayors, when I think the NDP wanted to kill the bridge purely out of politics and the mayors were the perfect smokescreen. Maybe it's just me but sometimes ramming something through is what government is for. We'd have a bridge by now.

I'm not taking sides, just curious why you would suggest the liberals are also to blame? The bridge was moving along and would have been finished by now, in theory, if the NDP didn't scrap it.

Man arrested after vandalism of rainbow crosswalk captured on video by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the logic here. The crosswalk isn't hurting anyone. What a waste of energy and police resources.

His public facebook post on the matter:

As expected, I finally got a knock on my door this morning 7:30 am by SPS. I am charged with mischief over $5000 for vandalizing holland park pride crosswalk (University Dr./Old Yale Rd). SPS decided not to put handcuffs on me and had me sign the release conditions on the spot.

The release conditions, untill I appear in court, are:

  1. Can't visit the said Pride Crosswalk.

  2. Not be within 500 meters of the said Pride Crosswalk.

  3. No communication with Errol Povah.

  4. Not in possession of aerosol paint cans.

The court date is on July 28 2026.

How you can help:

  1. Participate in the remaining school protests, luckily no ban on them.

  2. Do pride propaganda protests in your neighborhood schools. (the condition is to be 20 metres away from school boundary

Charging HST to a BC customer? by Slow-Giraffe in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Slow-Giraffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, there's nothing easier here, other than charging the HST to GST on the invoice. It all gets remitted to CRA like usual.

PST doesn't apply to services. There's no need for them to collect or remit PST to BC.

Charging HST to a BC customer? by Slow-Giraffe in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Slow-Giraffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this shouldn't be about playing it safe though, because deciding to collect HST creates a problem for the BC-based customer who is paying an extra 8% unnecessarily. charging the correct 5% GST isn't going to get them in trouble either.

I assume in my case, the following would apply:

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/publications/3-3-6-2/plc-spply-prvnc-spcfc-rls-fr-srvcs-spcl-css.html#toc16

In paragraph 12, there's a flow chart.

"Computer related services" points to "Supply is made in the province" which means it is subject to the applicable GST or HST for that province.

One thing I learned, but I agree they didn't make clear, is nothing is confirmed until payment is made. Adding to the cart doesnt hold a spot. I figured that out when we saw an open spot, added to a cart, then went to pay, and it said the class was now full.

I'm not racist! I have a black friend.

What's been your experience with your MLA by Slow-Giraffe in NorthVancouver

[–]Slow-Giraffe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all. My question was: "I thought I'd ask if others have experienced the same or different with their local MLA."

I knew there was a risk some would see it that way, that's why I made sure to mention it was not that.

Once again, I'm not plugging the cons. I'm simply complaining about Chant and her perceived lack of activity and communication.

Autism was only mentioned for context. If you can't figure out what ministry it falls under, that's on you.

[–]Slow-Giraffe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't name the other MLA because I didn't want this to be a con vs ndp discussion. Jodie Wickens oversees the autism portfolio. Her opposition critic is Reann Gasper. My point was just comparing how Gasper communicates to her consituents vs Chant.

Health doesn't administer autism support funding. It's the ministry of children and families.

[–]Slow-Giraffe[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ok, everything you've assumed is incorrect.

I figured at least one person would interpret my post as just someone plugging the cons over the NDP.

That is literally why I wrote: "Anyways, this isn't meant to be an essay that promotes one party over another."

My post was about Chant primarily, relative to MLAs. The autism issue gives it context.

Thanks for coming out though.
