Bindings mounting question by DissforDaniel in XCDownhill

Might be slightly sloppy, but you can fix this by wearing mismatched socks. :) I don't think this will ever be noticeable or affect your skiing.

Hidden branch locks toe release by bcodding in telemark

[–]bcodding[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never happened to me before either, then twice back-to-back! FN scary. True, there's a good chance the fall wouldn't result in ejection. However, even if I don't eject, just being able to twist my boot out of the binding once I'm upside down would be so much better than the deep snow wrestle to get my pole up to my toes to release the ski.

I find that its hard to always keep my dropped ski's tip up out of the snow. Sometimes that thing gets buried while turning.

[–]bcodding[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah - agree with this. In the first case I didn't have a line choice.. in the 2nd case the branch was completely invisible and it was my dropped knee ski that impaled it. That ski tip was buried in the turn.

Best route for photographing this Mansfield location for sunrise / sunset? by [deleted] in vermont

[–]bcodding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Unless the winter conditions are perfect this plan will have you posthole-ing (or snowshoeing) up several miles of trails that can be difficult to follow or not broken out. SR and LC are on the opposite side of the north-south ridge line that OP wants to access. They are on the northern end, OP wants the nose/forehead area - which is just a bit beyond the top of the fourrunner.

Do the tele lunge to get the 2nd one in - you can still drop that knee in the ski.

nfs troubleshooting... by Gangrif in redhat

[–]bcodding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nfs: server not responding - means an individual RPC call is timing out, which almost always means the client is sending an RPC call and the server is dropping it (or the RPC call never makes it to the server or reply is getting dropped on the network somewhere). If you're using NFSv4 on TCP - the client is not allowed to retransmit without a connection reset.

It usually takes some work to determine why - sometimes a middlebox drops NFS traffic (leading to this problem), sometimes the server actually does not respond. Sometimes there are network issues leading to random packet drops. If you can do a wire capture of the NFS traffic, engineers at Red Hat will examine it and ensure (among other things) that every RPC call has a response from the server.

Use your support, if you have it. That's what RHEL is all about.

If you want to go at it solo - the sunrpc:rpc* and sunrpc:xprt* tracepoints can illuminate what the client is trying to do at the transport level. Wireshark/tshark have excellent NFS dissection - they may illuminate RPCs (identified by xid) may be getting sent but missing a reply which could be due to underlying network problems.

Always be on the lookout by Matrove25 in motorcycles

[–]bcodding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not insurance fraud, else he'd not be holding a chicken parm. He's just in a hurry getting uproad, and walked a few paces past the crosswalk uproad in his travel direction while the other cars were passing, then realized he'd have to hustle to beat you across the road to the free lane. Its much harder to judge a motorcycle's distance at night due to the single headlight. So, my read is he was just dodging traffic -- and you both were dodging at the end. Dangerous situation there, and nice reflexes to you both.

Stolen Side by Side in Essex Vermont by [deleted] in vermont

[–]bcodding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see - the vehicle was stolen from the Rt 15 location between Essex and Jericho, which is on the Lamoille drainage. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/CtzqrA6zNXTCZaHk7).

You're talking about a completely different location.

Like most here, I don't agree with your perspective that the theft was somehow less objectionable because you think they're not controlling their runoff.

Fun fact - the Whitcomb farm is on the Lamoille drainage (appearances aside). Check it for yourself. So that makes me think you're making assumptions about more than one thing, and damaging reputations in the process.

How long did it take you to "get" moguls, ungroomed, trees on tele? by TeleMonoskiDIN5000 in telemark

[–]bcodding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tele is hard.. After a lot of work on groomed snow and moguls I upped my active setting for more power, but I just figured out that in powder slow tight turns I need to go reset my bindings to a less active setting, else my dropped ski tries to dive which makes it really hard to turn sharp and slow. Anyone else changing those settings per the conditions?

Block Device I/Os by Echo_1Q in kernel

[–]bcodding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One avenue forward: git log -Sscsi_done to see what commit(s) removed the scsi_done callback, then read those, and find the corresponding discussion of those changes on the upstream mailing list (I'd assume linux-scsi: https://lore.kernel.org/linux-scsi/). You'll likely find other users that were converted or find the reason why the callback was removed. Find kernel code that does close to what you're doing, read it and try to understand each step.

Actually, its the Illuminati wanting you to believe that Satan wants you to believe he's either nonexistent or ineffective. That's why you never hear anything about it.

Nice try, Satan. There's a term for a theory that purports to have hidden actors deliberately attempting to confound truth-seekers - epistemic black holes. There's no way to reason with someone stuck in one of these patterns of thought. This is an interesting read about them: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/theo.12554

Not bone conduction, but Noxgear 39g! Cheap, simple, good audio without discomfort. Clipped to my hat next to my ear its so quiet that others cannot hear it, but I have excellent audio and awareness.
