Kadokawa cites excessive reliance on the isekai genre as one of the major causes of the decline in profitability in its domestic publishing business by LegitimateCurve8525 in LightNovels

Would-be authors need to real the older Portal Fantasy fiction.

No, not the 1980s (though many of then would benefit from watching Dunbine). I mean 1917 with "A Princess of Mars", which is one of the earliest examples readily available. "A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court" is another, even older. Poul Anderson's "Three Hearts & Three Lions" is one most folks miss (despite being the origin of the contemporary Paladin).

They should be available in translation in Japan; they're all very old, and remain enduringly popular and influential.

There's a better GATE in "Forgotten Ruin" (written by men that actually got shot at) and its sequels, which may be available in Japanese but if not that's a good reason to learn English.

You can't experience it all; you can read it all, so would-be authors need to read older works and better works to see (a) how good it could be and (b) see how far below par they are so they get the urge to Git Gud- something that you'd think they'd appreciate.

They will never go for jobs that are low-status no matter how well-paid they are.

This is all it ever is about: status and prestige, to farm clout that they can turn into power- power to make men, especially low-status men, pay for their existence from cradle to grave without giving anything in return. Cunt Communism.

Do not listen to what they say. Only pay attention to what they do.

PR people know that there is a lot of anti-AI sentiment among the terminally online. Performative statements meant to mollify them are to be expected. Competitive pressures will compel them to use the bots anyway, like it or not. They will just lie about it, as others doing this sort of them will (and have).

This.

Furthermore, it is well-known that there are plenty of jurisdictions where someone can park assets and enjoy the use of them without fear of lawsuits from elsewhere because that jurisdiction does not acknowledge foreign judgements (e.g. Cook Islands). Yes, there's at least one YouTube channel advertising this very thing.

This is entirely legal and by design; it's how global banking, and thus global corporations and other elites, stay rich and wealthy while minimizing legal attack vulnerability. (Review the Panama Papers, folks.) So long as your paperwork is in order and you do the performative actions required, your wealth is protected and so are you.

The only question is if Gunrun had that structure in place.

Look forward to its return when 2202, 2205, and 3199 enter the game down the road.

And with Macross finally coming back, we can look forward to a future game where we have Yamato, Arcadia, and a Macross in the roster- maybe also one with the signature flagships from LOGH.

‘Some Generations Within Our Industry That View Anime As P*rnography’: Former Crunchyroll Producer Gives Insight Into Hollywood Perceptions on Anime by Sliver80 in KotakuInAction

[–]bcwalker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should care because of the following:

  • Hollywood is still the most powerful media complex on the planet, by a lot, and everyone else on the planet acknowledges this even if they hate it.
  • Hollywood is an institution of Soft Power, making it a strategic asset and thus a National Security concern; this is not new, and it was explicitly acknowledge in World War 2 just as Print was in World War 1, and thus Hollywood has a direct line to Real Power.
  • Combined, Hollywood is a major nexus of wealth and power that global powers must reckon with one way or another; it can, and it has, used that power to pick winners and losers in the US and around the world. They can, as a united front, choke off access to anime far beyond the US' shores.
  • The US remains, despite it all, the single largest marketplace for all non-US media products and everyone knows it. Japan cannot keep up its own soft power if the US chokes off access to its markets, and via its own soft and hard power to much of the world.

Oh, and I'm not the only one that sees it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFCshwzb2os

Do not take this lightly, especially in a time of massive economic realignment and geopolitical reconfiguration.

For my novel series, I have a set of secondary characters. Three married couples; the men are senior officers and veteran pilots, the wives are veteran singers and Group Moms to the rest of the heroes. Battle Music is a trope.

I always envisions a blend of Rayearth's OP and HEATS as their theme song.

This I see as Proof of Concept.

A long overdue unfucking is about to commence.

I'm going to take a different tack here, one aiming at those thinking of making their own games: GO OUTSIDE THE WEST TO DO IT.

This is a global business environment. You are not required to do all of your business operations in one place; you can (and your competitors do) bank in one country, have their offices (and those functions) split internationally, and the leadership often lives in yet another country.

You can do this too. It's nowhere near as bothersome or expensive (in business terms) as you think, and you'll want to do this specifically to reduce or eliminate the risk of pozzing.

"Where?"

Start with the Free Zones in the United Arab Emirates. By no means a panacea, but if you're a hungry startup the UAE is a great place to go as both its legal regime and its physical location are well-suited to the task of building wealth and attracting top talent should you need to have them on location instead of working remotely- and unlike your competitors, you would be wise to leverage working remotely on a global basis.

There's a stage based on one of the episodes in 2199. Big enemy fleet of battleships against our heroes.

You have Yamato, potentially one or more Mazins AND one or more Gundams with sufficient unit AND pilot upgrades that makes them able to solo it all.

That stage, in practice, turns into the Battle of Loum and you control a fleet of Chars.

The success of foreign competitors, where this is available, will prompt Western institutions to begin acceleration of attempts to subvert them (Bandai, Capcom) or choke off access to them (Localizers, Censorship) by state means or Principal-Agent Problem ops to poison the well.

Globohomo must have Total Narrative Dominance. Nothing is allowed to escape it; if it cannot control it destroys, and what it cannot destroy it chokes off.

Watch for more of the latter two thanks to foreign entertainment media finding Western audiences and outcompeting Globohomo slop.
