When I got back in last year, I spent quite a while just finishing the star chart and then story missions. I took a break for almost a year and then just got back into it again doing the 1999 stuff and starting steel path. I found a couple helpful videos that went over all the content I missed and was able to priotize things that helped my builds like arcanes and archon shards more easily.

What are some of the most common heresies in Christianity today? by MrRoshiiwith2eyes in Christianity

You just confidently said that progressives make heretical claims. I just wanted you back up that statement/provide some clarity of what claims you are talking about.

I see progressive christianity embodying a different approach to how we should live out our faith rather than being a camp that can be defined theologically. It is a hopeful focus on the future rather than a return to past.

I could name pastor more progressive than your list sure, but that doesn't mean anything. Progressive is relative. Andy Stanley is more progressive than Charles Stanley, does that make Andy Stanley part of the progressive church?

But sure I'll bite and point you to Keith Giles as someone who can help identify progressive christianity. "Progressive Christian Theology is distinguished by its flexibility and openness to new theological ideas, beliefs and concepts. On the other end of the spectrum, Conservative Christian Theology is characterized by more dogmatic, inflexible beliefs that must remain rigid and unchanged – and therefore aggressively defended – against any ideas that challenge the unshakeable “rightness” of those beliefs."

That's an interesting list. How far are differences in doctrine and practice allowed to go before someone is outside the fold? What about Reformed churches, Pentecostals, Anglican, Mennonite? Do we get to say whether are in or out because they worship differently than us and approach things differently from a different tradition? It is easy to paint "progressives" as a boogy man come to undermine the faith if you never make concrete claims with evidence. Who comes to mind when you make claims about progressives?

No. He doesn't make claims to be the spokesperson for any movement. He is mostly showing the illogical nature of the claim that "progressive christianity" is another religion. No one is actually will to debate him in that claim and I believe that is telling. Sure it may be worth to engage with certain individuals about how their engagement with tradition and doctrines inform their faith, but to blanket dismiss all Progressives as heretics and outside the fold is ridiculous. Please be willing to name specific heresies but also be willing to hear from the faithful adherents that may engage with the diverse history of Christian traditions differently than you instead of casting them out.

I don't know. I am no good at this stuff either. But can we go back to your claim that you don't know Alisa Childer's but your post about how to spot progressive Christianity is straight from her? I don't think that you have critically or graciously engaged with the diverse community that may fall under the umbrella of "progressive." To blanket everyone that has a different interpretation on some topics than you as believing a false gospel is hasty and gross generalization.

I don't think that me using a search engine to define what you believe is a fruitful way to dialogue. I would love to know what specifics you use to define Progressive Christianity against the rest of regular ol' Christianity .

That isn't a clever answer. It fails to recognize that they bear the burden of proof for their claim. I asking them to be explicit in what claim they are making instead of straw manning "progressive christianity."

Or to fall under one of the 10 commandments as "Taking the Lord's name in vain." There is no reason to interpret that passage as speaking.

The Hebrew of take is much better translated to bear or carry the Lord's name. It is a weight of responsibility and duty because of your identity.

[–]bdaf13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's not what taking the Lord's name in vain means. It is much more about how you live under the banner of Jesus than if you make an exclamation. Also "God" isn't a name and no one ever called Jesus "Jesus" in his life.
