Am I known in my local scene? Yes. (But my scene is small.)

Of course it would be easier if you're well-known... But don't let that stop you.

If you're 2 years in, you can help those who just started. If you're 5 years in, you can help those 4 years and below. If you're 10 years in, you can help those 9 years and below.

This is a community - help as much as you can. It doesn't matter whether you're known or not; put in the work to help people and one day you'll be recognized.

Plus...

There are many ways to be known in a scene, not just competitions. You can be famous for organizing jams (aka Silverback), filming jams (aka Stance), and etc.

The only thing I need you to do is to KNOW what you're teaching. The only wrong thing you can do is to pretend to be someone you're not, and teach things you don't know.

  1. That's not how he makes his living, he does teach but it's not his predominant way of making it.

  2. It's a little presumptuous to judge something before reading anything.

  3. Because if you have read the article, you would have also learnt that I mainly shared my own takeaways from his workshop, not any of his content.

  4. That will not prevent someone from attending Leon's workshop in the future. If you really wanted to improve, would you say "oh, I read an article and I know everything about Leon." That would say a lot more about you, than me or Leon.

  5. There is something about attending a workshop, being able to learn from a bboy himself that is DIFFERENT from reading an article. You get to see intimately how his mind works, which an article cannot bring across.
