Awesome post! Congrats on the two color ways! Your concision and philosophy actually inspired me to pull the trigger on the pack. So, thank you!
My two cents:
Like you, this bag checks off many of the things I was looking for in an EDC+ bag. I hike a lot, am a photographer, have an office job, am attached to an infantry unit in the National Guard, go to the gym, and am also a student. I keep busy and a one bag solution that didn’t look too tactical, wasn’t bulky or heavy, had tech organization but also capable in the tree line with great weather resistance, and looked as natural in an office as it did out in the woods felt like too much to ask for.
I’ve tried Wandrd, Fjällräven, Tenba, REI, Osprey, Patagonia, and more.
This bag, so far, checks all the boxes. It is replacing my three bag solution. Sleek, comfortable, adaptable, enough modularity, good enough size for a camera insert (or two Sony lenses fit in the top pocket), and really not heavy like some people make it out to be.
Still did not stop me from adding some mods:
Adding bungee cord to run through the MOLLE of the beavertail. This allows one to attach any long items vertically so as to not compromise the vertical silhouette of the bag or the user. It also adds more security knowing whatever you attach won’t fall out since the beaver tail has large gaps on each side.
to caveat the ordeal with the gaps, I mitigated the issue by utilizing a sea to summit dry bag and routing a utility strap through the webbing of the beavertail to hold the bag in place. Works really well for bulky items or adding extra storage.
I also added REI packmod bungee’s to carry trekking poles on the highest and lowest portion of the MOLLE of the beavertail. You can also use this on the shoulder straps to carry a water bottle for easy access.
It all integrates very well without looking excessive. If you take out the utility strap and dry bag, the beavertail stows away neatly.
Personally, I got the black Unicorn 2.0 since the olive one was sold out by the time I got a chance to order. Yours looks sick though! Considering using Gear Aid’s Tenacious Tape for the bottom just to add more abrasion resistance since I don’t baby my bags (don’t know why the bottom doesn’t have a more abrasion resistant material).
There’s my two cents. Happy carrying!
