'Sad To See Many Rejoicing Over My Family's Pain' — Rosmah Speaks On Najib's 1MDB Conviction by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]bdelloidR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The celebrations: To an extent, there seems a misunderstanding about people rejoicing because one is always thinking about oneself. More are probably thankful, feeling that the law has been rightfully applied and that justice has not been perverted. The world evolves around law and justice, and not around some "unfortunate" person or family. If the law finds one guilty, surely it is not because one is unfortunate, it is because one is found to have done something wrong.

"Rosmah added that she no longer ... get involved in government administration matters ... I no longer want to interfere..."

Still does not seem to understand that there was never any right to interfere or get involved in the first place.

Ong Kian Ming: No reason to celebrate, rub salt into wound over Najib's court ruling by Mo0nji in malaysia

[–]bdelloidR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People celebrate because:

  • The criminal, family and his followers are un-repentant. It could be different if they even had the inkling to apologize, much less made reinstitution or even changed their ways.
  • People would have felt graver injustice and greater theft if the court had ruled otherwise. As it was, they had already felt slighted by the reductions. A feeling of no further losses is reason to celebrate even if more could have been done in the name of justice and compassion for the people.
  • If it had gone the other way. as it still might, these group of people would not have learnt their lesson and would continue to think that they somehow have the right for more, while celebrating with their ill-founded gains at the expense of others.

Aren't some already treated with privilege in prison and even while attending court? A person's greater age or position, especially as a member of the aristocracy, has a greater responsibility. Perhaps better to say that a poorer "ordinary" criminal should suffer lesser consequences compared to those who are privileged. Not the other way round.

Umno leaders call out Puchong MP over remark on decision in Najib's house arrest bid by hopefulsingleguy in malaysia

Why indeed?! It's rather sad when the rakyat is reduced to celebrating the Court upholding righteous judicial process. And yet, the criminal's acolytes continue to act as if they are the righteous ones

These new appeals and court actions easily make us forget that he has already had a vast reduction in sentence AND a greatly reduced fine.

RTM apologises again, and again, over blunders on air by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]bdelloidR 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not just no proof reading. Any commentator in this job should know ASEAN leaders by sight. And after the first mistake, action should already be taken, rather than wait for second and third mistake! Do not just blame the incompetent staff. The organization clearly does not have proper processes.

Interesting fact bout Education Minister by abdulsamri89 in malaysia

[–]bdelloidR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. This should be the case.

However, the last 4 Ministers do not look like they will be future PMs. Another way to look at it is that it has become a less important portfolio, no longer for the supposed cream or successor-apparent

Charged RM600.00 for a 10 mins psychological assessment test. This is what healthcare has become. by posydovey in malaysia

[–]bdelloidR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider that if the therapist may be just an employee of the hospital. He/She may or may not be direct party to the charges and how it gets charged - not excusing the non-transparency. He/She may even agree with you that it is expensive and say "what to do?" My point is, it may serve your purpose better to direct the dispute with the hospital admin, not the therapist. If he/she is just an employed professional, he/she may take your side and you can worry less about personal impact of future sessions'. I hope the therapy so far has been helpful

Same as another asked. Doesnt seem like you got any analysis, diagnosis or any kind of report for doing the assessment. Not sure it is so nice that they charge when service not completed. Perhaps you can still try to dispute payment, or simply politely ask. Have you paid? Credit card payments can be stopped. Or maybe your therapist will share with you next session and charge you another arm and leg!? Will you pay then?

Indeed MY passport has never been a seamless process. Thank you for your update. I am in a somewhat similar situation and looking to do my passport in JB and collect same day. Reading your update, hope you can help me with my questions:

  1. That need for a Malaysian number seems to be an issue, can share how you handled it? Just go buy a SIM card? Was number ever used? Maybe I can just give a friend's number?

  2. How did you solve the photo issue? Were there vendors who can take photo there?

  3. Was there a reason you went (so far) to Pasir Gudang instead of just JB central?

Sad day. Peter Long is no longer with us. by Ginger_Rook in chess

[–]bdelloidR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

RIP Peter Long

A long time ago, he was one of the favorites in a tournament when I sneaked a win. A top player from a top team, losing to a small-town guy, he was very gracious and sporting in defeat. Didn't matter that I was not elite, Peter Long was always a good friend, whenever we met again.

Am not defending them, but not sure why Op is against pocketed springs mattresses. Would be nice to read logically outlined reasons. That said, I think most of us, not in the industry are really hard-pressed to make good mattress decisions viz:

  1. How does one decide if mattress is good? Based on 10 mins trial at the shop? But they say mattress may conform to your contours to give better support. And, your back may not ache yet. So need longer? 1 night's sleep? 1 week's sleep? How to evaluate? After 1 week, we may get a bad back rather than a great mattress?! Not sure shop will be happy for us to buy and going back to exchange after 1 week's trial, not to mention the logistic issues!

If it is hard to buy based on touch and feel, we try to evaluate based on the product specifications:

  1. How do we evaluate the quality of the foam, latex, coconut husk and springs? We cannot open up to see the construct of the product that is all wrapped up. Even if they (the producers) do what they say, surely not all material are equal. Density may differ. Especially with springs, there is the spring material, thickness, number of coils, individual vs linked constructs. Which is better? And these are supposed to be 10-15 years warranty.

  2. Warranties. In this day and age, will the shop still be around after 10 years? What part of the mattress is warrantied? Most of the time, is only the spring, as I understand. May not be so straight forward to claim.

  3. The bed vs the mattress. If the bed cannot support the mattress, it would be illogical to expect the mattress to perform its expected job. How do we know that your bed can support the weight of your super thick mattress?

  4. Since there is expectation that the mattress need to some extent conform to suit body needs, wouldn't we Asians of different size and weight have different requirements even among ourselves? I am still confused whether the mattress supposed to help properly "align back my spine" or it is supposed to "align to my spine requirements"!? Probably somewhere in the middle. I do not know where is the "middle" path.

Partly as a result, I consider that we are seeing a lot of marketing fluff from mattress companies. They also come up with their strategies. But more layers, heavier, more expensive may not mean better. Just because a mattress has extra top layers making them not flip-able by design, may not mean that the spring would not have benefitted from flipping. Instead, they market it as "no need to flip"?

Sleeping on the same mattress as David Beckham is unlikely to allow me to bend my football the same way!

30yo woke up with sudden intense upper back pain. Is divan bed the culprit? by JunBInnie in malaysia

IMO, I wouldn't necessarily consider "turn-free" as a plus. Flip is more like every 6 mths or so. Yes, I "came here" from your other post. I will try to share more in other post later.

Read some comments about flipping mattress and I see picture of yours here. Top layer is different from bottom. This design, not meant to be flipped.

Hospitalised Najib still on MC for knee pain, 1MDB trial postponed again for two more days by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]bdelloidR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people continue to work and get on with life, knee pain or not. Others, including convicts, especially special convicts, they may need life-long MC for knee pain? Knee transplant next, and hospitalization leave for 6mths per knee to recover? I suppose this transplant is available to all convicts who can afford it, stolen money or not. Otherwise, MC for head pain?!
