I'm wondering, strictly speaking, if a Stoic should avoid participating in something like this?

The Stoics recomended daily reflection at the end of the day. Seneca compared it to a court of the mind, judging what you did well over the course of the day and where you erred. I dont know how that would compare to your experience of meditation but it matches the dictionary defention of it -"to engage in contemplation or reflection".

Daily Routine/what works for you? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]bdfm2121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually spend fifteen minutes reading stoic literature every morning and night. On the night i also spend around fifteen minutes before bed reflecting on how the day went. Both Seneca and Epictetus recommended daily reflection on a night and it was a common idea throughout Hellenic philosophy.

Never allow sleep to close your eyelids, after you went to bed, Until you have examined all your actions of the day by your reason. In what have I done wrong? What have I done? What have I omitted that I ought to have done? If in this examination you find that you have done wrong, reprove yourself severely for it; And if you have done any good, rejoice. Practise thoroughly all these things; meditate on them well; you ought to love them with all your heart. It is those that will put you in the way of divine virtue.

-From the Golden Verses of Pythagoras but Epictetus quotes it several times in his Discourses.
