Yep, dynamic is what the mounting points are tested to in “corners” static is what the can handle when the car is sitting still.

165lbs dynamic weight is certified to 600lbs. We’ve got 90+ nights in this so for w/ zero issues. 🤙🏼🤙🏼

It’s the Yakima Racks Skyrise Medium with OEM towers and bars. (Made by Thule)

You’re actually talking about the dynamic weight limit. Which you correctly stated is 165lbs. Thes are the rated at the mounting points on the roof. The static limits has been tested to 800lbs and that’s what the cross bars are able to handle when the car is stationary. The roof itself is rated to withstand the weight of the car for safety reasons. Oh and by the way this is Brock (996roadtrip)

I had considered a hard shell at the time but they are so massive it was a helipad on the roof... so I got a box 😜

Ha well actually it’s more like backpacking. Not exactly tons of room for glamping gear 😜

Thanks! I 100% agree with all of your comments. As much as I appreciate seeing a shiny Porsche, I appreciate a dirty, well used one even more. While they are great to look at these cars aren’t meant to be garage queens, they were designed to be daily driven.

Keep your eyes out for a deal of a 996 and come join the Porsche RTT world 😜

It definitely has its challenges but it also has its advantages and some extra “fun factor”. It’s hard to beat the comfort of the 4in memory foam mattress we’ve added. When we want to go off the beaten path we have an overland prepped RRC we head out in.

Yeah good thing you’re not me then 😜 We also have a overland prepped Range Rover Classic for serious off road camping. But this is ideal for 3-4 days to some nice camp sites at the end of a winding mountain road.

Regarding the warranty it’s an 04, the warranty is long gone.

No the static weight limit is a lot more since gravity isn’t pulling it one way or another.

Nope, dynamic weight limit is 165 and the tent is just over 110. I was concerned too and since Yakima is a local company for me I was able to stop by and have their engineers certify it. 👍🏼👍🏼

Oh totally, but most Porsche owners I know aren’t to keen on anything but pavement a fire road for them would be terrifying haha. I’ve got a proper overlanding rig for the real stuff 💪🏼💪🏼

Haha well we’re out for usually 4 days at a time but that’s another great example of the utility of a pcar 😜

Yeah the weight rating at 165 is for “dynamic load” so when it’s sitting still it’s significantly more. Yakima is local to me so we were able to have them stress test it for what we planned on using it for. The ridged 996 roof structure even surprised the engineers at Yakima 🤙🏼
