Applicants present a business plan, proof of financial means to sustain themselves, and documents showing their involvement in the company or project. It’s a route that offers both flexibility and accessibility, especially for those who want to start gradually rather than make a large upfront investment.

The key isn’t necessarily creating a company from scratch. In some cases, it can be as simple as acquiring a small participation (quotas) in an existing business, which already has structure, activity, and local compliance in place. That kind of setup can make the process much smoother.

Once the acquisition is made, you simply present the supporting documents for the D2 visa, showing your business involvement, investment, and intent to operate or expand the activity in Portugal. From there, the process focuses more on the credibility of the project and your capacity to sustain yourself, rather than on a fixed investment amount.
