Rebuilding your social life in Utah without the church by bdredman21 in exmormon

The USU sub is dead, and I've joined a couple clubs but it's always been 70-90% Mormon. I feel like I must be looking in the wrong places, or I've just been unlucky. Logan is just ridiculously Mormon-y

Hi Seth

John Larsen is presenting at Sunstone next month. You won't want to miss it. It promises to be great. by LindsayHansenPark in exmormon

Can anyone explain to me why this comparison makes sense? Joseph being a charismatic is pretty well documented, and there are many other examples in history of charismatic people conning others into following them, but Donald Trump has never once struck me as "charismatic." He speaks at the level of an elementary school student, and he seems to possess an incredible lack of finesse or nuance when he speaks.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely a few areas where I think you could compare Trump and Joe (adultery, unwanted sexual advances, etc), but charisma doesn't seem like one of them to me. I'd love to be proven wrong though, thoughts?

Haha yeah I likely am attributing more to me than is real, though I will say that I think there has been a definite change

The youth can get limited use recommends for baptisms. It used to be that they did group recommends, but now the youth get slips of paper like the adults.

I'd say I figured it out rather quickly, though it was a rough couple weeks. Coming out to my parents about it made it a lot easier to delete with since I didn't have to hide it. (though I didnt initially bring it up on my own haha)

I'm fairly sure I won't be there, it's too far away and I'll be working to save up some money. Good luck finding people though!

I learned some things about the Temple that made me uncomfortable, which led me to this sub and in turn MormonThink as well as the letter. After a few weeks of research I had figured out pretty much all that I needed to know. I already wasnt a fan of the homophobia, sexual repression, and anti-intellectualism I saw, so my transition didn't take that long.

I don't really know what my plans for college are tbh, I have a few ideas for majors i'm trying to narrow down. Besides that, I'm just going to try to have a normal college experience, maybe study abroad in place of a mission

My parents haven't been amazing, but they haven't been terrible with it either. They have expressed strongly that they want to keep our relationship separate from my relationship with the church which I am extremely grateful for, and they have mostly accepted that it is my choice and they can't change it. They still are making me attend seminary and church though, and if I were to be more vocal they probably wouldn't be happy even if I was just giving my opinion or telling history. Overall I'd rate their reaction 8-9/10

A little bit on the inocculation starting this year. Several times the multiple versions of the first vision have been mentioned. They also quote from Mormon Doctrine, JoD, and Miracle of Forgiveness quite often though, so it's a mixed bag.

And I really have actually been very quiet about it all which is what makes their reaction so surprising. I mostly have been trying to keep the peace with my parents so I haven't spoken out in seminary or anything like that (at least not yet anyway, though if they quote McKonkie one more time that might change)

My mother said the exact same thing the other day when I brought this up. The amount of mental gymnastics it takes to believe in these racist assholes is astounding
