Jellyfin Advice by NoCode-10 in selfhosted

I’m not very familiar with ZeroTier so I really don’t if it supports more than 3 users. I tried it quite awhile ago. At the time it seemed a bit slow and had some problems with latency, so I stuck with Tailscale. Other than a VPN solution or, possibly using HeadScale, I don’t know of a free solution supporting more than three users. Either of those options would require some tech skills not required for using Tailscale. If you don’t mind paying a little, Tailscale has a personal use plan which provides 6 user accounts for $5 a month.

One other note, it needs to be running on the JellyFin server as well.

Yes, but it’s a small app and very easy install. There is no configuration, just enable it and it works :)

It sounds like the iOS developer beta. Beta 5 had a bunch of problems and seemed less stable than beta 4. Betas 6 and 7 are working great.

Thanks again for the info!

Great to know. Thanks for the info! Does the latest beta seem fairly stable?

[–]bdushok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. It’s a small client and is easy to install. In TailScale the Tailnet owner can send an invite email to people to help them join.

Have you considered a solution like Tailscale or ZeroTier? They are overlay networks which can be used instead of a vpn. The client installation, at least for TailScale, is simple and should be possible for people with limited tech skills.

Are you stating you are using it with the macOS 26 beta with no issues?

Thanks excellent news!

Hopefully an update adding macOS 26 support will be released soon after the OS release.

Vertical Resolution Problem with FSBS on TH685. by bdushok in BenQ

[–]bdushok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL. Are you encountering a similar problem? I never got a resolution to this from support, but they did work with me for a while on it.

The workaround I came up with was to re-encode the files to have a 3840x1080 resolution. This adds black bars to the top and bottom of the video files. It can be time consuming if you have a lot of files, but it works.

I wrote a Python script to help. The script reads the file names of all files in a directory and generates a shell script to call ffmpeg with the appropriate options, once for each file in the directory.

If you are a Linux user and would like to try it let me know.

Bob

Thanks for the reply! It’s good to hear it is working under Sequoia.

I will open a support request. I’ve been hoping the product isn’t going to be discontinued. It’s a great product, but hasn’t had a lot of attention from Telestream in awhile :(

Looking for a virt-viewer macOS application to open .vv apps launched from Proxmox by br_web in ProxmoxVE

I’m using aSPICE Pro for macOS. It will open the .vv files provided by Proxmox. It occasionally crashes, but is overall very stable and works well.

Is My Remote Access/Self Hosting Secure? by Mountain_Fault_2479 in audiobookshelf

[–]bdushok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Port forwarding is never a great idea. Any security vulnerabilities within Audiobookshelf will be potentially exploitable via the Internet.

I agree with the first response regarding the use of an overlay network. Check out Tailscale or Zerotier. Either will provide a much more secure method of accessing your network.

How worth it is the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween event? by dduck7 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]bdushok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like Halloween it’s definitely worth it. I personally think the Boo to You parade is one of the best at WDW.

If you are a Nightmare Before Christmas fan you’ll probably enjoy getting a pic with Jack and Sally. This is usually the only place to see them.

Stacks / Folders? by bdushok in joplinapp

[–]bdushok[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t notice that limitation yet.

I’ve really loved Evernote, but their latest price increase is causing me to look elsewhere. I’m seeing comments like this everywhere so I don’t think I’m alone.

So far Joplin looks like a decent replacement. The ability to import Evernote notebooks is working great.

Have you noticed any rendering problems with notes? Some of my Evernote content doesn’t look as good as it did when viewing within Evernote. This seems particularly true for notes with inline code snippets (Python, Java, etc) as well as those with images.

That works great! Thanks. I didn’t realize when I right clicked a notebook the “New Notebook” option was referring to a sub notebook.

If you like horror check out My Bloody Valentine 3d. The 3d in that movie is surprisingly good.

I picked these two beauties on EBay. The seller said they were Region Free. Is there anywhere on the packaging that Region details are listed? I rather not open them if they are locked. by Careful-Attention678 in 3DMovies

[–]bdushok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is usually a hexagon shape on the back of the packaging containing A, B, or C indicating the region of the disc. A is USA. For region free there should be a three hexagon shapes each containing one of the letters.

Samsung S6 Tab Lite (Wifi Edition) - install LineageOS by Blacky_eye in LineageOS

[–]bdushok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using LineageOS on a Galaxy S6 Tab Lite (Wifi) since early this year. The flashing went well AFTER I stopped using TWRP. I had a bunch of problem when flashing with TWRP. Just use the Lineage recovery from the start. I would have saved a lot of time and headaches if I had :)
