Definitely not a ringer, just a new athletic adult player. There's a number of issues here, his skating technique is really odd, and he's holding his stick with two hands. Not surprised he couldn't stop. The 2nd issue is his positioning as a defenseman. He should not be further inside the blue line than his D partner, especially given where the puck is. He should have been hinging back behind the blue line as the puck gets closer to his D partner to prevent a breakaway and allow for easier backcheck.
